My planet creating and destroying ships take about 4 years to build with space yards III. Even longer if I include a space yard in them. I think he was saying that tech areas can take that long to research not one area. He said advanced technologies take that long to research. But he really should have been able to get Gas Giant tech by then if he really wanted to.

I really disagree with his assesment of the game however, the things he didn't seem to like are to me the strengths of the game I like the complexity and I even like the tactical combat (not that it couldn't be improved) much better than the combat of say a Reach for the Stars.

Yea, I would think he more the RTS-type gamer (what can be fun, too. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Look at Colse Combat 2).
