Re: Maximum Ships Limit

I have heard of some Proportions mod players nearing the 20K limits.

Proportions mod players? Holy cow how long did that game Last. I played about thirty turns and didn't have more than a couple of worlds, all underdeveloped.

Then I got killed by the Xi'Chung, since I couldn't build enough weapons platforms on my colonies fast enough to defend them. Lol.

Re: Maximum Ships Limit

They took hundreds of turns. One was a single-player game, and another was one of Fyron's PBW games using Proportions mod, combined with an early Version of FQM, which meant that there were tons of moons and asteroid fields, which in earlier Versions (about 2.4) of Proportions mod meant gargantuan quantities of resources - essentially resources were not a limit as long as you could build and protect enough asteroid mining bases.

Thanks everyone! I guess 'll be scrapping that mothballed fleet as well as all those defense bases on backwater warp points. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Having a lot of spaceyards with baseships "on hold" at 1 turn to completion is the way to go when you're at your ship limit http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Queues on hold do not use resources, so it costs nothing.

Mothballed ships do count against your maximum ships limit.

Mothballing a ship will remove it from the score computation for score points, but they are still in the "Total number of ships" number that is on the ship info screen. And your allies can see from the score screen can see the total of how many ships you have, but they have no way of knowing how many or if any are motballed unless they use ships with scanners.

I am dredging up this old thread and quoting myself here because I think I have realized I was not 100% correct with this statement.

Mothballed ships do count against your total ship limit, that is correct. But I think now that your allies cannot see your total # of ships in the score display. They only see the ships that count as far as score computation goes, so they don't see your total number of ships, only the ships that are not mothballed. So you could have say 500 mothballed ships, and 50 that aren't motballed, and when your ally looks at your score he'll only see 50 ships for your empire.

If he's flying around in your space though he'll see your mothballed ships sitting there. If you have a bunch more than are showing up on your score display he could do a count and figure out they are mothballed. And he could always peek at them with scanners and see they are mothballed.
