uhm...they fired Alan emrich http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

he was the lead designer, the game is fully designed now, only needs programming and tweaking, QS or IG had to let some people go, so they fired him.

back on topic...sort of:

Well, to me the new Units.txt and Mount options (next patch) are new toys but there is also the rumor that once a few more game bugs are fixed there will be a patch adding new weapons/components. Kinda like the very first patch that added a few new weapons (been so long I forget which ones were added).

Also, the new forum is cruddy. It seems to be a UBB type board like this one, but not well designed. AWFUL color scheme, bad screen layout. Yech... there was more whining about the BB than about anything else for the first week after the move.

They are mostly a Civ3 site but have forum devoted to several turn based strategy games. Including MOO3.

Yes, we're trying to get MM to add some new weapon damage types and/or abilities. Dunno if he will actually do it or not. So don't take this as a promise.

Yes, Alan Emrich has been fired from the MOO III project. It is now completely 'in house' Quicksilver people who are working on it.

The Apolyton site has been a sort of 'rebel refugee' site since the turmoil began with feature cuts, moderator firings on the forums, and general axing of formerly popular staff on the development team. I suppose it's as good a place as any to visit for a sample of the atmosphere in the MOO fan community Online. But I should point out that there is some disappointment being voiced even by brand-new arrivals to the IG 'in houise' forums, too. People are beginning to hear about the changes -- like the axing of many original races -- and expressing their unhappiness. I hope this will lead IG to restore some of them in an expansion pack later on, but IG is not known for intelligence or sensitivity...

Henk, have you seen the color scheme on Infogrames site? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I may be wrong but I have a bad feeling about the game right now. This isn't because they are competition, it's because the publisher doesn't have a great track history with hard core game titles.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I agree with Richard, I think they will screw it up. I've been reading their bhah-blah. I think it will be another "Reach for the", (wallet, opps), I mean, "Stars.".

I, too, would be pleasantly surprized if it wasn't. I am not expecting too much, however.

Cynic, I am.

Re: State of the game....

Well, I can only repeat my observation from the Civ III thread. The first release of everything is a public beta. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I'm hearing more and more good comments about Civ III now that it has been patched a gazillion times. If they release on their announced schedule -- in time for this Christmas season, that is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif -- MOO III will not be really 'done' until next summer, I'd say. And that's plenty of time for major changes. So if you hear a lot of *****ing in the initial reviews, don't completely close your mind to the possiblity it will become a good game later on. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Besides, once it's patched enough to be called "finished" (ie, mid summer), it will have dropped $10 or $20 in price! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
