Server down? Please delay the gen as I can not stay and wait for it to be back up right now...

We're experincing difficulties with the server; hosting is suspended till it is resolved.

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Decelerating

The server appears to be working again.

Next host is scheduled for Monday at 9 p.m. EST; we're switching from 12-hr. to 24-hr. fixed hosting, according to plan (week one of gaming is over).

Unfortunately, I did not get Tuna's message about the server until after this morning's host, so we have one player who staled Last turn; my apologies.

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Decelerating

I cannot connect to the server. It seems that our network does not know how to find the IP address.

Oh, and by the way, why is there no trash talking about this game? We have this nice little thread, and it gets no use whatsoever. When I finally manage to grind Anya under my high heel, I do not think I will be able to resist. Ladylike or not :-p

Tuna November 12th, 2004 05:04 PM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Dece

I also cannot connect. I have made a turn, but it was only quick and temporary checking what happened without any of the actual playing stuff. So, please dont gen tonight.

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Dece

Try 69.201.103.35 for the i.p.

DNS problems, I think.

Come on, guys, what's up with the silence? Stuff is happenening, but nothing's being heard! Anya's dead again, Abysia seems to have given up, someone wiped out all the giant Hall-of-Famers... but no one says a word.

I'll be away from the Internet this weekend, and pausing the timer on Saturday and Sunday; would you like the game set to quickhost during that time? Otherwise, we won't be hosting again till Monday.

At this point, it might be nice if we could switch to 48 hour hosting at least for this week - thanksgiving holiday week, lots of family commitments, my girlfriend being in the same continent as me for the first time since January.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif (She gets here Sunday, leaves at dawn on Satyrday.)

I'd go for 48-hour quickhost. Other thoughts?

48 Hour Quickhost would be fine with me.

After the host tonight at 9, we have no host until Monday. After that, we switch to 48 hr. quickhost for the week, then back to regularly scheduled 9 pm hostings.

I feel as if it has been years since this game has hosted. It's the only one I'm in, and this makes waiting even worse. If Caelum stalls after all this, I think I will go and eliminate him out of spite.

Right, now that the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday is over, we can revert to 24hr. fixed hosting again, or something in between, like 36hr. quickhost.

Thoughts?

Tuna December 3rd, 2004 05:14 AM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/

I'd consider 36h quickhost the absolute maximum between turns.

I cannot really figure out why people always ask for 48h turns, as there's not really THAT much to do, and I am unable to play a gae properly on such slow turns (I always forget what I was supposed to do, and have to either write tuff down, that I dont really bother to do, or spend huge amounts of time on every turn trying to figure out the strategy again and again.)

If it depended on me, all games would be 24h qh...

Me too, except for the fact that I found that 24h qh does not always leave me enough time to stop the game from hosting when the server has problems and that leads to stale turns, and unhappy players (i.e., game hosts before I can get to the server after work). 36 hr. qh gives me an extra cushion to attend to such administrative details.

The 48hr qh was just a temporary measure for holiday in the U.S.

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/

Oops, I suppose you won't agree to a shift to 48h qh for Argitoth's game then. But seriously, in that game, I really need about two hours just to do a turn properly. While I'm managing right now, it won't be long before I have to fudge things in order to keep within the time limit. The micromanagement of late-game Dom2 is pretty bad and you really do need lots of time to do a turn.

Cainehill December 3rd, 2004 07:44 PM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/

Yep - an hour or two isn't uncommon for mid to late game on a good sized map, at least for those nations that have been doing fairlyl well. IMO, people wanting to stay with 24 or 36 hour hosting should probably stick to games on maps that are somewhat smaller than the Cradle - not everyone is prepared to spend 4 hours every three days on a game.

While I have some understanding for the frustration on the recent slow pace of the game, I would like to point out that the very first post in this thread announcing the game stated, "When things start getting really interesting, I am guessing around turn 50-60, we will switch to 48 hour hosting for the remainder of the game.".

We're currently at turn 49, and I for one will be somewhat disgruntled if we don't go to 48 hour hosting sometime in the next 12 turns or so, as was specified in the terms of the game.

You switched Caelum to AI, and I got treated to a volley of remote spells, some targetted at provinces and mages Caelum almost certainly did not know about. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Has NOT been patched to 2.15.

Thoughts?

Cainehill December 17th, 2004 08:26 PM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Decelerating

I always think it's good to wait to patch, on account of the occasional big problems (unique artifacts crashing the game, etc). Wait a week or two first, imo.

Yvelina December 18th, 2004 06:46 PM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Decelerating

I would like to apologize for possibly missing a few turns in the next two weeks. I am spending my vacation in the USA, and may not be able to find much time for Dominions II. No need to slow down the game for me, I know how frustrating it is not to be able to see what your orders ended up achieving. :-)

That does not mean 'Everyone attack Vanheim!', by the way!

Oh, as for patching, I would rather finish the game with 2.14, but I do not feel strongly about it.

Reverend Zombie December 19th, 2004 01:30 AM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Dece

My preference and inertia and the responses so far mean we will probably stick with 2.14

Believe a new turn has run, but after uploading my turn (the last one needed) I consistently get hung up at the "waiting for game info" screen. (About 10 tries now, including starting another while the first is still hung.)

Duck and cover! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

First time I see an Armageddon in action. I suspect that Arco cast it. What I do not quite understand why he thought it was a time for suicidal moves... He did not look so weak to me, or I would not have attacked him this turn.

Ah well, life goes on. Except for my Airheaded Fanatic who died as he was casting a rather important spell. I guess not even domes protect from Armaggedon.

Tuna February 16th, 2005 12:05 AM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Dece

yvelina: what suicide moves?

It's simply a matter of efficiency. Considering how many times I am outmatched right now, Armageddon is guaranteed to hit more of your troops than mine... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Dece

Is the server down? I have been unable to connect with my turn for a few hours. In my books, we are very close to hosting time, and I would hate to stall - I have a number of mages wide in the open, scripted for easy takeover as opposed to fighting off a counter attack.

Reverend Zombie February 16th, 2005 08:58 PM

Re: MP Game (started)-ZenCradle&Pretender/Dece

There was a nagot for one of the games, not sure which. I had to reboot. Van and Ctis are still showing as needing to take their turns for this one.

Hi. Yesterday I had a it of a suprise, forcing me to drive my dad home. Now I'm 300 km away from my computer, with no idea if I did the turn and when the next hosting is going to take place, and I wont get back to my place until sunday evening. Since the game is "slightly" interesting atm, and I am in everyone's sights (If I wasn't before, now I am :] ), I have to ask for holding the turn until I get to make it, if it is in any way possile. Thanks.

Oh, by the way. I have two accounts here, Tuna and Tuna-Fish, I have no idea what either one's password is, I just have the Tuna account password saved at my own comp and this account password saved on my old comp here at my parents http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Turn has run.

Re: MP Game (open) - Cradle/De-celerating Schedule

I'm back, and there is a new turn. Now that I can devote some attention to the game (no one tell my Physics prof!) anyone got an idea where the damn Doomcaster is, and what (s)he actually is? I hoped that when Poddy died, we would get a respite, but no luck.

By the way, Patrick, you made Petar livid by posting his Hall o'Famers in that other game, mind doing the same for Poddi?

I expect we will not be able to catch the Doomcaster, because he can always teleport out of whatever castle he is holed up, so can we please agree to who will take what provinces? So far, it seems that Mary got the Northwest, I have the Southeast, and C'tis is gobbling up the North. That leaves Arco's West untouched. Any takers?

Cainehill February 25th, 2005 11:43 AM

Re: MP Game (open) - Cradle/De-celerating Schedule

R'lyeh should be somewhat disappointed were anyone else to lay siege to Arco's south west.

Does anyone object to me taking over Vanheim? Yvelina is having a rather hard
term, and feels that she is not giving enough attention to this particular
game. I think she had a stall and an half-way taken turn among the last turn.

No objections here.

Tuidjy March 11th, 2005 08:59 PM

Who is still in the game?

When I submitted my last turn, it jast was three hours before the host time, and
I had been the only one to play. I just submitted my present turn, and I am
again, the only one. How many of us are still the game?

In case anyone cares, this game is not Vanheim's just yet. C'tis is at least
as powerful as I am, and as far as clams and empowered commanders go, probably
stronger.

Reverend Zombie March 12th, 2005 12:08 PM

Re: Who is still in the game?

I don't mean to miss turns. As most of my commanders have monthly orders, the stales don't hurt so much.
