Well, in SE4 all those options are saved with your empire if you save it in-game AFTER making them. I presume its the same in SE5.

It is. If you save your empire and load it with the next game you can alter the empire setup as you like but you will get your settings and customs layouts.

Well I just tried saving my empire in SE5 game. It crashed the game. I started it again. It seemed to have the empire file but I couldn't load it and whats more it corrupted my savegame http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

The demo does not allow you to use saved .emp files...
