As far as map recommendations. Other than just using a using a random map, I would recommend (in order of personal choice):

Sharivar
Orania
Desert Eye

You'll have more provs per player with Orania, probably enough with Sharivar, Desert Eye would be a little tight, but probably playable for 11. All are easy on the eyes, and have had a lot of playtesting.

Thank you Lingchih.

Sharivar is a great map, and fits aprox. 15 provinces per player perfectly. But unfortunately I've just started playing a game on that map on Q3 forums, as an MA Ermor. Playing similarly-themed nations on the same map maybe be a bit too much for me. I would like to try another map if we can find something that fits our requirements.

Orania is good but maybe a bit too large - 279 provinces means 25+ provinces per player. I am afraid the game may take too long with that many provinces and players.

Desert Eye is an opposite - a bit too small. 125 provinces means just 11 provinces per player.

But thank you for your suggestions, I really appreciate it. Do you, or anybody else, know of any other good maps? Ideally we are looking for about 15 (perhaps up to 20) provinces per player, easy on the eyes map.

Wouldn't this be perfect? I'm too graphically inept to do it myself. :(

Excellent images Ich. I agree, that would make an awesome map for our game, and a great map in general.

Heh. They say that demons are not to be trusted. But we shall see... :smirk:

It's nice to see that several players seem to have read and enjoyed that book series. :)

Ok, I did some research into potential maps for our game, using llamabeast server's map catalog. It looks like there are not that many maps that fit our criteria.

Here are two maps that may fit our bill, I would like to get your guys opinions on them.

1. Primea. Looks nice. A bit on a smallish side - 147 land, 9 water. That means 14.1 province per player, or 13.3 provinces per player if you only count land provinces.

2. Urraparrand. (It comes with Dom3 I think) 145 land + 35 sea. 150% money modifier recommended.

That means 16.3 provinces per player, or 13.1 province per player not counting water. Note that there is significant amount of water and since we have no water nations, battles for control of the sizable seas will be fought by land nations. So nations with easy access to underwater troops may have a bit easier time on this map.

Please let me know what do you think of these two options. Also if you have some other good map in mind that you think may fit our game well please let us know about it.

Hmm, I just realized I've never actually played abyssia before. This'll be interesting. As for the map choices, they're both about the same as far as provinces go, though personally I'd lean towards Primea.

I'd still vote for Sharivar. Heck, if you're already playing it, then you know it even better for this game. I've often played the same map in two concurrent games, and found it only to be a bonus.

Primea is a bit ugly, though serviceable. Urraparand, I seem to recall, has some really nasty prov connection problems that would have to be fixed. Not to mention it's a wraparound.

Unfortunately Corwin, between my recommending my map catalogue and your looking at it, almost all the maps got deleted in a hideous server bungle (I've improved my backup system now!). Sorry about that. There are many more good ones around - elmokki's, in particular, are well worth checking out.

Aren't all the ones that were on the llamaserver also on the forum somewhere?

The links under the LLamaserver maps and mods browser will work to point you to the original download links for the maps. All of them are still listed there, with thumbnails.

http://www.llamaserver.net/mapModBrowser.cgi

You'll have to download the map from the original link, and then re-upload it to the Llamaserver. I had to to that with Tyrande for my new EDM test game.
