Re: I am bummed out
Ummm, 1016B ... so 1,016,000,000,000 that would be 1 trillion and 16 billion http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
so congrats you made it. |
Re: I am bummed out
I was showing the game for a friend and I demonstrated the Diplomacy by requesting my strongest foe to surender. To my surprise he did. A nasty tought rised in my head and I demanded surrender of a race that I hadn't even openend fire at, since I came in contact with them afte the first one surrendered. He surrended too. My conclusion is that there's a thing just like the MegaEvil empire setting that when you're score is X % of the second, he'll surrender.
Very bugging since I only colonized half of the known galaxy and after that I just sent out any thing I had to find the remaining neutral's, and they surrendered on contact as expected. |
Re: I am bummed out
Well, maybe once MEE has been engaged, the remaining players should all sign military alliances that cannot be broken until the MEE has been wiped out or reduced to maybe half of Last place player's score (not including neutral's scores of course). Surrendering for anyone except the MEE should also be disabled at this point. But the percentage for becoming MEE should probably be raised slightly since you would theoretically be facing the entire remaining galaxy.

Re: I am bummed out
Perhaps the most amusing surrender I've received came in one game where the Eee traded me a commlink for some race (on the other side of the Eee, apparently; I had no idea where they were.)
I called 'em up, asked them to surrender (at the time, my empire was already fairly badass, and I usually play Evil, so hey...) -- and, surprisingly enough, they did. After that, it may have been just a coincidence but the Eee were pretty angry at me. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif *500* ships in a fleet ?! In my present game, somewhere 'round turn 280-290, w/ ~500 colonies so far (but all the surrendered ones are rioting... it's REALLY tempting to just blow up their planets) and 430B, I doubt I've more than, oh, about 60 warships in total. Probably fewer. But they're VERY nasty max-tech warships -- only one's ever been destroyed, maybe one other battle one sustained minor damage due to carelessness, and 4 enemy AIs have been vanquished so far... ------------------ -- The thing that goes bump in the night |
Re: I am bummed out
Is it just my impression or does everyone brag about how they can beat the AI without even getting hurt? What's the fun in that? No pain no gain I say! I find myself doing my battles in strategic more and more these days as it will at least give the AI a fighting chance to hurt me a little in the process. I just take no pleasure in onesided slaughter. No fun to win if you just walk over the opposition all the time. Imo at least.

I am bummed out
I started my latest game 3 days ago, and I just won. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif
Here are my ending stats: Turn: 427 Population: 1016B (I wanted to get to a trillion) http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif Systems: 160 Colonies: 851 Research: 491269 (Was higher, but I scrapped a ton of research facilities to make room for Monoliths.) Intel: 351005 (same here after all the AI enemies surrendard) The reason I am bummed is that I wanted a long Lasting game, but I managed to out research the AI thus I was able to shut down warp points, build star killers, and deploy them throughout enemy territory with impunity. I then systematically began capturing planets with as much ease as walking from a room to a room. The AI (self defeating) had no defenses other than Satalites and a few mine feilds. The bigger AI's I simply blew up a few stars, and they surrendard without firing a shot. THATS what really sucked. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif You see, I had a fleet of nearly 500 ships, and I had them massed for an invasion of the Eee space, the only AI that was large enough to give me a fight. The Eee only attacked me with fleets no larger than 16 ships. Mostly single ships. I sent them a "Surreneder or Die" message, expecting them to simply ingnor me, but nooooo, they gave up! So I spent 50 turns colonizing the galaxy. I still have something like 400 planets still un-colonized. But I got board, and wanted to come read up on the forum. Hey, has any one gotten to a trillion in population yet? I made it to 1016 Billion. ------------------ "We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats! Re: I am bummed out
Socialist, we can play humans now. PBEM. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I know, I do. Much better competetion. I suppose you mean TCP/IP and I'll gladly play with you when we can.

Re: I am bummed out
Maybe one of the reasons I get spanked so much as I do a modified tactical battle, use tactical but set it on auto ....I am to lazy and impatient to move every ship myself http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: I am bummed out
Count me in on that TCP/IP game too. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Provided that it does not exceed 6 hours, and does not occur on a day or night that I have to work. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
And, as a side note, be prepared to meet the Atrocities onslought. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif ------------------ "We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats! Try hotseat sometime. Corrupt your friends if need be. It's grand fun. I've got a couple people I play hotseat with all the time. It's the most fun way to play, way better than any form of Online play because you're face-to-face and can trash talk all the time. Plus, if you lose, you can make your buddy appologize by buying you pizza. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif ------------------ Compete in the Space Empires IV World Championship at www.twingalaxies.com. |
Re: I am bummed out
It does seem like the AI gives up too easily in some cases, like surrendering completely without a fight like you mentioned. Here's another example.
In one game, and even before I hit Evil Mega, though I was still the most powerful empire around, I took a chance and asked one of the neutrals on my doorstep to give me a settled planet in his system. To my surprise, he did. I waited a while, then I asked for another. Again, he gave it to me. He wound up giving me every planet in his home system except his homeworld, which I didn't bother asking for -- I just moved a fleet in and boom! Another application for membership in the Federation has been approved! Well that went pretty well I thought, so with the next neutral I started the same process, this time asking for a planet as a "gift" every turn, and as his Last "gift", I asked for his homeworld, and I got it! I had to fight a few stray ships that no longer had home planets but that was about it. Then I started the same process with a weak player empire, that had somehow never managed to get out of its own system. He started giving away planets too! But at that point, I wanted to actually use my rapidly-getting obsolete fleets in combat, so I just went in and stomped him. The moral of the story I guess is that there should be some things you don't give away, no matter what. |
Re: I am bummed out
I think everytime a human player asks for a trade or a gift from an AI race, the AI should assume it's going to get f***ed and tell the human player to kiss his ***!
|
Re: I am bummed out
Well if I have every planet from an AI race blocaded and have destroyed all their ships then they probably should surrender to me. In real life it would probably work that way. Although there would probably be worse morale penalties for that than there are in the game now. And perhaps a few "freedom fighters" still holed up in the hills somewhere.

Jubala,
yes..grin...only in Email..strategic combat..phoey heheee yes..once TCP IP comes..we will get a good long game going ------------------ Waves his Red flag Socialist |
Re: I am bummed out
Are we even sure that TCP/IP play will include Tactical Combat? I wasnt sure that was a given at this point. Personally, I think its a must, but many have been the game that removed the tactical component in the interest of 'players wouldnt want to wait while others resolved their battles'.
Has anyone received definate info one way or the other yet? Thanx, Talenn |
Re: I am bummed out
Looking forward to it. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
