Underwater Nations!!!?

I was remaking my entire nation-god settings for a new World War, I finished Abysia-humanbred, then I started on Atlantis, I realized why atlantis was always the bland, same old nation to me... it has no special themes! I was kind of sad at that, then I got to R'lyeh, it doesn't have a special theme either! Why, I ask, do the underwater nations have no special themes?
I also noticed that Jotunheim (is the only?) doesn't have a "normal" theme, but has "Iron Woods" instead of "normal." The other nations I see all have "Normal" there. Why are the underwater nations cursed with no themes, while Jotunheim has three, technically!?

Cthulhu doesn't need a theme. Cthulhu *IS* a theme!

Don't forget Broken Empires.

I like how they add themes, which are pretty much new nations in patches instead of expansions.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I guess it's due to the way themes were introduced in Dominions 2. In PPP, Utgard was the standard Jotunheim, and Ashen Empire was the standard Ermor. Since these are the only 2 old nations which had their base theme changed, Iron Woods and Broken Empire had to be designed from scratch and got distinctive names, while the other nation's standard themes were just 'imported' from PPP unchanged.

For R'lyeh, I've thought that a neat theme would be one in which you couldn't build any of the half-breed or slave units, or get free Foul Spawns on land, or anything like that. But you could recruit the various Void Gate beasties at your capital. The best ones would of course be extremely expensive. It could be tough to get rolling without any cheap troops, but once you do, watch out!

Actually I have created my own type of crazy theme using Atlantis - Golum Cult (robots from the sea lol).
I find a nice corner of land to pump out my constructs and control the seas with my water based armies. It actually is quite fun!

the only theme I think you could even do with ryleh is removing all recruitable units except for illithids and starchildren, then provide either multiple voids or a void in every fortress you erect. Then maybe a unit or adjustment of the starchildren for the summons. Maybe make the summonig a little easier that theme.

HOLY TRIPLE POST BATMAN!!!

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I don't know - it would be amusing to try and make a theme based on a Call of Cthuluh / Bunnies and Burrows crossover.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Enh. The Void Summons are plenty easy for the base theme, if you set up appropriately. Your Dominion and your Luck scale seem to play a part in the outcome.

BTW, the False Dawn mod is really quite interesting, as an alternative to how standard Rlyeh operates.

Not only are they Robot Pirates but also they are Flying Robot Pirates!

The multi game we are in will be interesting since this is my first experiment with this. It will be fun having flying Crushers and Golems flying out of the back water provinces. This should allow me to strike anywhere on the map...well thats the theory anyway. lol

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">PPP (or Dom:PPP) is Dominions 1: Priests, Prophets and Pretenders. Besides being the standard, what are now called Utgard and Ashen Empire weren't only standard for those nations. There were no themes, and they were everything that nation had to offer. Personally, I think it is thematic and wish more nations had better name for the base theme than simple 'normal'.
