Future progression of the game

I was playing a bit of "101" in the weekend as well as reading a pretty good book on Arnham.

The more I think of it the more I consider this game engine would be great for a series on city/town type conflicts. Areas such as Arnham (I know this has been thrashed a bit), Stalingrad, Warsaw...etc.

The man on man action would be ideal for urban conflict. Any thoughts?

IIRCC 82nd should include more urban envirnments than did 101st.

But othewise, I agree with you 100%. Stalingrad would be a bLast!

When we finish our e-commerce upgrade next week (which has been a REAL pain http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif) Tim is going to have a ton of more free time to work on 82nd. I expect to hear more in the next few months.

I can tell you this much, the code for the 101 is being sent to our new programmer as we speak.

Art wise the game is practically finished. When we get a free second we'll get something up.

Actually, I have found out more about the progress on the CD Mag war forum!

nikb April 7th, 2001 12:35 PM

Re: Future progression of the game

Actually, it was a post over at CD Mag that made me think of this one. It was a mentioned that a number of pre-orders had been made for this game.

Well, for all that I respect Shrapnel, I would expect more publicity if I had pre-ordered. Where abouts are you at with this game?

From what I have read from other Posts, it has supposed to be at a new programmer, however, is this the official line? Is it close, or is it Kaput!!!

How about those screen shots promised a wee while ago? Just let us know.

Re: Future progression of the game

Hello to anyone listening!

I see it's been about a month since anyone posted anything here. Any new info on the status of the 82nd? How about a teaser screen shot? I've been tempted to preorder as 101st had a lot of potential for me; the painfully slow hair pulling madness of movement/patrol/trying to make contact with the enemy to reach the objectives totally destroyed all that was good with the 101st. For me anyway. Of course I have my own wish list for 82nd but with the number of games I find appealing slowly diminishing I was really looking forward to this one. Even more so as my jurasic era machine will choke and die on all new "main stream" games. My .02 of rambling for the Posts today. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Shrapnel certainly has my interest on this title. 101st was a terrific game, and I'm really looking forward to the improvements planned for 82nd.

I've already pre-ordered my copy. Any chance of some real news?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Future progression of the game

Wow! So someone does actually listen eh? LOL, thats actually one of the things I really like about Shrapnel. I thought maybe that email got lost to Sarge but thats all I really wanted was one teaser screen shot. Now I ask, was that really so hard? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gifInteresting choice as well I remember the downed gliders in 101st but not any fighters, but it has been a while since I played it. Now as far as Sarge's article goes I don't know HPS and don't worry Matrix games has not gotten any of my money yet. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif But I think we forgot to mention Battlefront.com, with Combat Mission being their flag ship product I guess. I'd have to say that I'll take good game play over fancy graphics everyday. As long as the graphics are what I would describe as functional I am happy. In addittion I'm certain the G-Force 3 is a nice video card but unitl my lotto numbers hit I'm not spending $500 on it, there just isn't a game I want to play that badly. I read an article on Combat Mission 2 that is suppose to release this fall and while they are recomending a 16mb 3D card at this point, it will still run on a 8mb card. So while they are making use of some of the 3D technology that has come out over the Last few years they are far from the bleeding edge. Which both I and my very old machine think is a great strategy.

Any news?

I notice that the "Our Games" page at Shrapnel.com now lists a September 2001 release time for 82nd Airborne. Is this just a wish, or is the game on track for that month?

Thanks!

Re: Future progression of the game

Well, since I don't even see a Beta forum fo r AA, I'd say that the September date is a bit hasty.

On an interesting note I saw a brief mention of AA in a computer magazine. It was only a sentence or two but at least that's something. I think it was either in CGW or Computer Games Strategy Plus.

OK, here's the status of All American:

2D Art: 95 % complete. Need to finish interface work only.

3D Art: 95% complete. Interface and opening movie.

Programming: The hold up right now. We lost our progammer.

Realistically, we have about 6-8 weeks work left. Before beta. 3-4 week beta and then gold.
