Gift of Reason

Which creatures benefit the most from casting Gift of Reason on?

Re: Gift of Reason

Tartarians come to mind, so long as you can heal the likely Feeblemind...

Any commander you've Enslaved. :p

Monsters with exceptionally high movement (there are some that can fly 10 provinces a turn, ex. Vastness... which also reveals another interesting property when GoR'ed) are likely picks.

If you're fighting R'lyeh illithid packs, you might also want to GoR a mindless unit to make a mindless commander for leading additional mindless troops.

Creature with unusual slots. Crossbreeding can produce some interesting things... Grotesgues have three hand slots IIRC. Some of the more rare crossbreeds could be used more effectively if they can use the commander-only Fire Rear.

It doesn't have that many actual uses, but you can always give a 5-star, limping, one-eyed Veteran a chance of leading armies instead of retiring him as an arrow-fodder.

Re: Gift of Reason

Despite having Gift of Reasoned a vastness before i dont recall any special properties, please remind me (seriously, i wana know).
Tartarians are ok for GoR but with the gems i would rather just make more and hope for a commander. Ettins (what endo may have meant) have 3 arms and 2 heads which is useful, basically any powerful unit that could benefit from items is a good choice (abominations, tarrasques, and iron dragons all come to mind). Wished for units and units that would be far better if empowered are also good choices.

Abominations were good for it too, they can take an average army alone pretty easily. Wished Doom Horrors were good candidates because of their high movement and ability to destory everything the come across.

-ETA-

Actually, if I recall correctly, in Dom 2 every wished creature came as a regular unit and you had to GoR them to use them as commanders.

Re: Gift of Reason

Yup. Wished monsters always came as regular units.

Hm. I see that the Devourer of Souls arrives as an ordinary unit; might be worth GoR'ing if he has any slots (2 misc, maybe?) -- say, a ring of regen + amulet of antimagic.

The Eater of the Dead is also an ordinary unit; making THAT a commander means you could leave it in a province without some sacrificial commander to shepard it around. Hm.

Even if less powerful that other summons cited here, a GoRed Gargoyle is rather cool also, once equipped it's a really nice thug/mini SC.

I adhere to the PvK School of Thought and GoR my 5-Star Cave Drakes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Gift of Reason

I'll admit to once GoR'ing a Mechanical Man, and then turning it into a dangerous, mindless, highly elemental-resistant battlemage, but I had a fair bit of extra gems and was in no danger of losing the game by that point, so...

LOL, I must listen to "Mechanical Man" now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yes the gargoyle can be an excellent choice. In dominions 2, I have made a very efficient thug with death magic and awe.

Now the mindless commander idea!

BRILLIANT!

Who said you need mind to command? Just look at some RL presidents and heads of goverments...

Re: Gift of Reason

The idea is you need a mind to command WELL.
