Looking for GOOD AI
Hello everyone.
Usualy i play the quiet person in the game, who sits in the middle of the scores. Well, in my Last game went on an attack on the enemy. The most advanced ship i ever saw was dreadnought with XII APBs and lvl III Ion Engines (no shields or sensors..). And now im looking for an AI who will be able to beat me... (never lost any war..) ANy suggestions? ------------------ Emperor Klis't of the Taera Republic. Proud member of the League of Empires. E-Mail - Ora Planet - Taera Republic - League of Empires |
Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Try my mod using your shipset =)
You might be surprised at how advanced things can get. |
Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Have you tried the Rage? In the Last few games I've played in a large galaxy they've racked up well over a million pts, 4.5 mill in one case. A good challenge although I'm starting to get overwhelmed by them. It's getting to the point where I feel like Terrans did in the Starfire universe fighting the Arachnid Omnivoracity.

Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Definitly try the Rage, they are a good enemy! Most of the TDM-ModPack races are a good shot as well, esp the Xi'Chung!(usually no 1 in the scores)...If your into something different try my Y'Gathian Free States (they use crystal/organic tech) or my Version of the Borg, both in the downloads section.
As always for a challenge start with med tech, high AI bonus and low bonus for AI resources (or med if you are truely in for a challenge)....This gives the AI less 'theory' techs to research and more weapons/armour etc....set the Tech research to low cost and away you go! Have fun, and remember, be kind to the EEE! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif ------------------ "The Empress took your name away," said Chance. Owen smiled coldly. Re: Looking for GOOD AI
I've been playing games with the max systems set at 100, large map, low starting tech level, med tech cost, high difficulty, and low AI bonus, with 2000 RP. Then I select the Colonials, Klingons, Norak, narn, Earth Alliance, Pyrochette, Rage, Romulan, Piudon, Sergetti, Xi'Chung from the TDM-Modpack, Q's CueCappa and Phong, the Atraikians and Zorians so I can continue to evaluate and improve them, 1 or 2 from some friends, and then fill in the 20 players with some of the more recent sets from here.
Every one of them has been very brutal, with at least one race being eliminated by turn 50 (other than any I take out), and have found that unless I'm using a playing style that I'm very comfortable with I have to struggle to stay in the top ten, and am frequently faced with AI races that have a good 20 tech levels on me. When I am using a syle that I am very comfortable with, I typically stay between 4th - 10th place and am only slightly behind on tech. One of the things I've found with this set up is the aggresiveness of the races selected makes it almost impossible to stay out of wars to build up, your continuously draining your resources to nothing in order to hold your borders. The peaceful races seem to get hit the worst because for some reason the psychotic races don't seem to like them (have never seen either the Rage or the Zorians make friends with them, yet I've seen the Zorians with a trade alliance with the Rage and military alliance with the AE while all three pounded the Phong to a pulp) |
Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Im not looking for a bloodbath, but for realistic game with smart opponents.
Guess i'll be downloading the Rage, TDM mod and the Devnulmod soon... Thanks everyone! (BTW, in my first message, the dreadnought with APBs and Ion Engines III was EEE's best fleet, which i took accidently with my four cruisers :-\, what made them easy prey for everyone else..poor EEE http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif) ------------------ Emperor Klis't of the Taera Republic. Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Maybe blood bath was the wrong term. You do get right into the action though. You diplomacy and combat skills will be tested immediately.

Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Definately try the races suggested.
You may want to try this type of set up for a real blood bath. It makes for a fun game once in a while. Small quadrent 100K starting resources, good homeworld, 10 planets, any starting tech level, only colonize your home planet type, all races have same planet type for homeworld, 5000 points (only use 2-3k for yourself), no nuetrals, 10-15 AI's. I feel that if I have enough time, I can set my defenses up to where I am almost guaranteed to win. In this set up will have you in a war in 5-10 turns against an AI that can pump out ships so you don't have that cushion. |

Also, TDM is _NOT_ compatable w/Devnullmod, although I think Dev is working on creating Versions of the TDM races for inclusion into his mod. And what's wrong w/the EEE? I've never met them. Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Well, bringing to top an averagely old topic..
I do not like any kind of mods (yeah, thats me) and still looking for powerful AI. Lets see...Rage is, who else? I myself starting to play with Medium bonus games...though i feel its unfair to give bonus to one of the players, still the AI cannot live without it. ------------------ Emperor Klis't of the Taera Republic. Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Definitly use the Rage, other good ones are the TDM-Modpack Xi'Chung (5kemp.file), the TDM-Modpack Sergetti(5kemp.file), the Torons(tdm as well) and the Klingons from the modpack. All will give a good challenge. Also I posted a 'new' race, the Cephalopeia, in the shipset/AI section. They have so far givin a very good fight, running even in scoring with the Xi'Chung and once beating the Rage down.
For all my games I usually start with 'med' tech. this gives the AI less 'theory' tech to research and more to spend on weapons etc. give full starting resources (high), good planets and 5k empfiles, if you don't want the xtra resources for yourself, just waste them(ie, don't research). Giving the AI the Hard bonus and low/medium for resource bonus works wonders as well. All these options usually give me a good challenge. One other thing, DON'T use Alligence subverter, it just gives too much of an advantage for the player vs the computer. computer just dosn't know how to react/defend. ------------------ "The Empress took your name away," said Chance. Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Im using organic tech, so Alliegance Subverter is out of reach for me.
A question - are TDM AI scripts are as good outside the mod? And, could someone please e-mail me the original Cryslonite .emp which i accidently replaced with something else? If yes, my e-mail is ant119@hotmail.com ^thanks ------------------ Emperor Klis't of the Taera Republic. Proud member of the League of Empires. Re: Looking for GOOD AI
You could also try to create a "rich" universe, as describe in the "really big game" thread. I tried this on a medium quadrant and it's not bad. The AI definately doesn't have any problems with resources or colonies!

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by TaeraRepublic:

I have been away from the forum for a while and did not find it worthwile to adjust my mod for the Last patch (no AI improvrements), so I may not be up to date. Nevertheless, until 1.30 at least, "smart" was a word that did not fit the SE4 AIs at all. The modders are doing great jobs to improve the lower level routines of ship design and economics, but for the AI to be "smart", the hardcoded part of the game must be altered. Do not get me wrong, I find that Aaron already has done some noticable improvements in that part during previous patches, but nevertheless, the AI's strategy and diplomacy are erratic, unfocused...well, rather crappy. Let's be honest, after playing the game twice you will always win except if you give the AIs huge bonuses ("small" advantage already means twice (!) your resources, "medium" means three times, ...). When people were talking about SE3, I always had the impression that there the AI was truley "smart" in the latest Versions. However, reading the latest Posts at this forum, people also seem to become rather content with the current state of the AI, which I cannot really understand. So, the question is, will the AI ever be a challenge in itself, or is what we have now most of what we will ever see ? And am I the only one who thinks that the current AI is crap... has ample space for improvement ? Addition: Read this in another threat and am entirely aware of it: "I think the reason everyone is always asking for more is because typically Aaron actually DOES it! Re: Looking for GOOD AI
Hey Andrey, you can try the Pyrochette too... You can find this race into the TDM-Modpack, but if you want the Last Version (still in beta), I could e-mail it to you.
