OT: A strategy game in six days...
...C# is coool. I made a simple space strategy game in six days. You capture stars, which build ships on a semi-random basis, with which to attack a second player in hotseat mode.
The game is Here for x86 computers - 4MB or Here for x64 computers - 4MB. May not work on all computers. You need the .Net and XNA redistributables, which can be found Here (x86), 22.4MB and Here, I think - 2MB. |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
you just need a bit of network code now! :p

Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
Hmm, I'll have to give this a look...
edit: hmm, nifty, though moving ships was a bit confusing to figure out (left click then right mouse button drag)... and you can zoom in so far that the world flips over... and I can't figure out how to end my turn! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
...Isn't the readme in there? * Scratches head. Can't remember what the last upload was.
Anyway, 'e' to end turn, 'enter' to start turn, 'r' for last turn replay, 'q' to exit replay. Ships have a 2/5ths chance of capturing an enemy star (The readme incorrectly says 1/3). Unoccupied stars are free to the first taker. Either way, you loose the ship. Stars produce ships on a semi-random basis every 2-4 turns. |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
Oh, I was an idiot and dove right in without reading the readme http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

And it only took me six days! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
Anyway, what do you think of it? And does anybody know anything about vectors? I'm trying to make my intercept code take acceleration into account. If you do and want to help, I'm on IRC. |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
Anyone know of a good webhost? I've got ambitious plans for a forum...Can't keep leaching on this one for the game.
Oh, and the current version is having trouble working. I uploaded a release version instead of a publish version - Tell me how it goes? (The game start menu doesn't actually do much, although you do need to click 'Add Empire' at least twice and then hit 'Start Game'.) |

Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
I dunno...I honestly want to get it working on all computers, but I have no x64 to test it on. All I have is stupid questions, like:
'Did you click on Strategy Stars.exe?' 'Have you tried removing the manifests? The x86 version doesn't seem to actually need them.' If I think of more stupid questions I'll PM them. Hmm...Instead of spending $90+ on a webpage I don't even know if I'll need, what's a good free forum host? Thanks, everyone. All compliments have been awesome. Even the errors mean someone was interested enough to look. Comments help keep me going. |

I'll try it out on my machine once I turn it on again... it's been off for over a month now! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
Thankee.
Hrm...No. There's a line in their TOS that could potentially allow them to grab anything I link to. |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
Well, I went with Bluehost. The telus downloads have been removed; links to pre-alphas for x86 and x64 are pending.
Among other things, I want to look into getting a lawyer to write up a lisence. New forums can be found at Mouse-Produced Games. I will no longer be posting to this thread; further updates will be in that forum. Thanks to all who posted in this thread. (Note to any panickers: I will not be leaving the forum. Space Empires is an awesome game series.) |
Re: OT: A strategy game in six days...
Hey cool, I will look forward to keeping up with your game, Narf. I'll register at your forum later today.
I hope you enjoy using Bluehost as I have. |
