heal, resurrect, dome, item spells?
 
Hi

Some questions have arised that I'm hoping you can help me with:

- Could someone tell me how the Heal Troops ability works in more detail? Is it best to place as many wounded units & commanders in the healer's province? Or is it better to have just the healer and the wounded unit / leader in one province, if I really want that one to heal.. (so will the healer try a heal on all units, or just a limited number of them..)
- with any of the resurrection kind of spells (such as Twiceborn, Immortality), will you keep the items that you carry if you die?
- do the province protection spells (domes) actually prevent you own casters to for instance teleport to that province? Or even kill the caster (fire dome)? Or, worse, when you teleport your army out from battle, may it be pevented by a dome cast on your home province? Or when the Twiceborn resurrection occurs and you get teleported to home?
- is it true that for all item spells to work you must also have the spell researched (e.g. Astral Travel, incinerate, etc..)?

You don't have to research the spell for the item, I know that. I also remember reading somewhere that the heal troops ability makes a check for each unit individually, so they will try to heal all the units.

I theory you do not, but there is a bug that affects at least some of the items.

This was discovered in the case of the Gatestone. I'm not sure what other items it has been confirmed for.

I think perhaps the Soulstone of the Wolves has the same bug, but I'm not sure.

Gatestone, Soulstone of the Wolves, Gift of Kurgi, those all have the research bug.

Honestly, I wish that at least for the Gate Stone it would be WAD

Re Healing: Page 70 or something in the manual
Domes: Should only work against enemy magics

At least Nature and Air domes stop all incoming ritual spells, including your own (unless your spell destroys your own dome). Tested in MP. Several times. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif I've finally stopped trying to teleport into a province with a dome up. It's not just teleport, it's all rituals cast from a province outside the domed province, targeting the domed province (it doesn't matter if it's your domed province or not).

Domes do not stop a 'Returning' from in a battle. That will always bring your unit into your home province even if there is a dome up there.

Domes are like very stupid guard dogs. They are told "Do not let ANY spells in!" and they take it very literally. It was that way already in Dom2. I only made that mistake once when one of my air mages bounced off a dome and I've known better ever since.

The reason why returning works is that it is not targeted at a province, it is targeted at the individual and the effect whisks that individual to the province that has the national capital flag for that nation set.

At least in Dom2 Astral Window flew past domes like breeze. I used it to "wisely" test whether my opponent had any domes (after all, it should have bounced right?) before teleporting in. No bounce happened with several tries, thus I teleported/gatewayed/faery trodded/cloud trapezed in a huge load of troops and mages...

...of course, air dome does break after few attempts, and astral dome does let half in, but having only one third of your invading army where you want it to be is not the optimal situation.

Don't believe me before testing it though, it may have changed in Dom3. But I've always assumed "Domes don't let anything in" is actually a myth supposed to be busted a bit like the "Rituals are performed in totally random order" meme in Dom2 (again, might have been changed now).

You lose the items even if you die in your own dominion and resurrect immediately.

Forgot about astral window, and I don't know if domes stop site searching spells. I suppose domes affect spells that try to do something that actually interacts with a province or the units and commanders in it as opposed to doing passive things (like Astral Window). So trying to spell-drop an army in, toss assassination spells like Seeking Arrow or snatch a commander via Winged Monkeys and whatnot would get bounced off the dome.
