Tiny Cataclysm - Tratorix Winner !!

I want to do a small & fast paced game to give a try to the mod Cataclysm:
http://z7.invisionfree.com/Dom3mods/...?showtopic=573

Basics : Everyone start with the same poor nation with H1 and mage 1x.
But most of indies lands have some magic sites (already up, no need to site search) who spawns some random indis (troops mages commanders...)

About the settings tell me your wish !
Atm i have in mind to set indi7, easy research and others settings to default.

Players 4-6
map : Streamlands
Turn length 36h
Others mods : CBM 1.92 / Streamers&standards.

Nation colors:

Bullock - Black
Tratorix - Pink
Dojango - Grey
Horrorfend - Green
Groundworm - Cyan
jimbojones1971 - Red

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Wouldn't set indies to any higher than 7, could make expansion even more painful than it will already be. I'll join as the Commonwealth of Pink.

Edit: Also your link doesn't work.

Bullock October 11th, 2011 06:25 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Link corrected !

Indi7 sounds good to me.
But as mentioned i m listening any suggestion of settings.
Easy research maybe on a small map ?

tratorix October 11th, 2011 06:39 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Easy research sounds good, since we'll have to adapt research goals on the fly. Small map is probably ideal because I can see someone getting lucky with recruitment sights and just steamrolling everyone anyway. I just started a test game and the first province I took allowed me to recruit Bogarus' cap only mages.

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Yeah i don't think we are going to play a balanced game :)
But i m sure it will be a fun one !

dojango October 11th, 2011 06:57 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

This sounds intriguing. Put me down as the Republic of Grey.

Bullock October 12th, 2011 03:43 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

I have attached a map as a suggestion in the first post. (FirstWorld)
And it s in the case we get 6 players.

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

It is a shame I don't have the time for one more game :(.

I'm playing with this mod in Cataclysm, and it's really cool.

I didn't try a long time in SP but i think it take some time to manage all these indis in mid-late game, so i won't try to convince you.

But what i'm sure that it s going to be really cool :)

dojango October 12th, 2011 05:35 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

yeah, there's definitely a big element of randomness to the game, should be interesting to see how it turns out.

HorrorFend October 12th, 2011 10:16 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Sound like it will be quite a free for all, sign me up for the green nation.

Groundworm October 13th, 2011 12:17 AM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

I'm definitely interested in this. Please put me in for the Caliphate of Cyan.

I took a look at the map you linked to- it's a no indies version. So while there are still the random sites generated by the Cataclysm mod, there are no other independent recruitables. I'd be in favor of changing to a map that didn't have this handicap. Might I suggest Six Lands or Streamlands instead? Perhaps Desert Eye?

Also, what do you think about changing research to standard?

Bullock October 13th, 2011 12:34 AM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Welcome in!

Didn't see it was no indi for my map, but it could be fun :) and i think i will stick to my choice for the votes :)
Otherwise i m fine with your maps except maybe Desert Eye which is a bit too big (120lands~) but i m fine with it anyway.

So actually we have those maps in competition, feel free to make some suggestions :

First land (no indi)
Six Lands
Streamlands
Desert Eye

And concerning research my vote will depend of the size of the map we choose. I'd rather pick Easy R. but i'm fine with standard.

Groundworm October 13th, 2011 01:44 AM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

One other thing about the First Land map: in addition to being no indies, it's also a dead seas version (water provinces have no income, no resources, and no chance at having recruitable units). Also, it seems as though the Cataclysm nations can't be selected with Six Lands, so that's clearly not a good choice either. If Desert Eye is slightly larger than you're looking for, then my vote is for Streamlands.

tratorix October 13th, 2011 01:48 AM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Streamlands is fine with me, still want easy research.

jimbojones1971 October 13th, 2011 08:33 AM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

Any chance you can fit in one more? If so, I'd be very keen. Happy to play pretty much any colour (as they are all basically the same).

Bullock October 13th, 2011 12:15 PM

Re: Cataclysm - Recruiting

It s fine Jimbo. Actually you get the last slot.

So we are about to start with indi7 easy research & Streamlands.

You can still ask for specific settings or vote for a proposed settings in the previous posts.

The game is created : http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo....Tiny_Cataclysm

I had to change the name of the game because there is already 1 called Cataclysm.

Gentlemen, get your pretenders ready !

Groundworm October 13th, 2011 02:01 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Awaiting pretenders

The game on llamaserver is middle age. In order to use the Cataclysm mod, it needs to be early age.

Bullock October 13th, 2011 02:03 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Awaiting pretenders

thx. I ve updated the game.

Bullock October 14th, 2011 03:22 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Awaiting pretenders

Ok the game is ready to start as soon as Jimbo send his pretender.
If you want some specific settings its the last time to ask for them.

jimbojones1971 October 14th, 2011 03:53 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Awaiting pretenders

Excellent, will get my pretender in when I am home in about 6 hours. :-)

jimbojones1971 October 14th, 2011 09:23 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Awaiting pretenders

So I've got the following mods turned on when I make my pretender, I assume that this is correct based on the first post:
* CBM 1.92
* Cataclysm
* Streamers and Standards (Llamas version)

Bullock October 14th, 2011 11:27 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Well it sounds good.

And the game is started ! Good luck gentlemen.

jimbojones1971 October 15th, 2011 07:44 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Well, found that province (its in normal games too, not just cataclysm) that is defended by three air mages well stocked with air gems - orb lightning madness!

I am pleased to say though that, through a combination of using sermon of courage to get my heavy infantry to fight to the death, and mass archer fire plus some judicious smiting from my prophet, we were able to prevail. Having said that, of the 27 heavy infantry that went into the fight ... one survived. (The archers got a much better deal of it, not even one got wounded much less died.)

So I have made the surviving unit of heavy infantrymen into our royal guard, and deployed them back to the capital where they can spend their remaining years being feted for their bravery and fed peeled grapes by semi-naked female (or male - we are an open minded people!) admirers.

Bullock October 15th, 2011 09:14 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Haaa it s good to know there is still heroes in this world.
Long live to him.

jimbojones1971 October 17th, 2011 04:56 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Is anyone else finding that their heavy infantry have a lifespan somewhat shorter than a fruit fly?

Which ones? Both the light infantry and heavy infantry are called heavy on the recruiting screen. I seem to have an acceptable attrition rate on the true heavies.

Bullock October 18th, 2011 03:29 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Why the hell my stupid lonely commander has to follow my cavalry and die ...
Why doesn't he stand peaceful at the rear of the field and wait the job to be done... ?

Aaaah damn bunglers...

The "light" heavy infantry are just dead men walking. The other ones are doing OK, but I find that my typical battle ends with the few surviving heavies fleeing the field while my ranged guys mow down the enemy and win the day with contemptuous ease.

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Found a bugged site. Shambler City. Scout's honor, I won't recruit any of those free Wild Ettins (0 gold, 1 resource). If anyone else sees one of those sites, I guess we'll have to have a gentlemen's agreement not to take advantage?

It's not game-breaking, the units aren't mega-overpowered or anything, but they're free, which is probably not working as intended.

Yeah, agreed dojango. At the end, we can bundle them all up and stick them on the mod thread for fixing.

How are people finding the mod so far, out of interest? I'm quite enjoying it, as it is very different, but I really am very confused about how well I am actually doing in the game.

tratorix October 20th, 2011 11:40 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

The Wild Ettin site is actually a CBM bug IIRC. Quite liking this mod, every turn feels like Christmas morning. :D

Groundworm October 21st, 2011 02:41 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

I agree... each new turn I can't wait to see what's waiting for me to be recruited in my new provinces. :)

The indie strength 7 and only heavy infantry/cavalry and archers has made expanding more difficult than I'm accustomed to. That may be part of your troubles, jimbojones, rather than the mod itself.

I too enjoy coming across some unexpected new recruits. Although I would be interested in knowing how many provinces people have come across without any special sites, should I feel disheartened that I've found 5 already?

Bullock October 21st, 2011 10:38 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

No don't worry i didn't found many either.
Maybe 2 sites for every 5 lands.
When i tried in SP i had something more like 2 for 3 lands.

jimbojones1971 October 22nd, 2011 12:42 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Out of interest, are people doing much site searching?

I did a bunch SP and got some good returns, but so far in this game its been a waste of time.

tratorix October 22nd, 2011 01:46 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Haven't found any sites with recruitables, but I've found some gem sites.

jimbojones1971 October 22nd, 2011 06:30 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

When I saw that a province had heavy infantry, archers and elephants it didn't occur to me that it would have SIXTEEN ELEPHANTS and that they would ALL fight to the death instead of routing and stampeding over their own units.

Fortunately by brave infantry all fought to the death again (with the exception, curiously, of the last survivor, now designated as the "Royal Guard" unit). But seriously - sixteen elephants?

All part of the fun, though - this mod remains very entertaining :-)

dojango October 22nd, 2011 07:25 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Keep in mind that indies were set to 7 so they're more powerful and numerous than normal.

jimbojones1971 October 29th, 2011 10:06 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Huh, llamaserver just sent me a turn file for Hinnom in another game. Very strange.

Bullock October 31st, 2011 01:16 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

I just noticed that the game was running 24h turn instead of the 36h announced, it is now correctly set.

jimbojones1971 November 7th, 2011 06:39 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Apologies for the stale, I've been travelling for work and just couldn't quite get it together in time for this turn. Such are the fortunes of war!

Bullock November 7th, 2011 09:48 AM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Ahh to bad because it happens at the worst time for you, you should have requested a small postponing "just in case".

Yes, this is true! Too late now though. We can just chalk it up to the fates favoring Black in our war :-)

Something's come up, could I get a 24 hour turn extension? Thanks in advance.

To my surprise, I still have an army of sorts. No country, but an army.

For some odds reasons the server took my postpone order but didn't apply it...

jimbojones1971 November 8th, 2011 06:34 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

Yeah, it does that sometimes - alas, there isn't too much you can do about it.

jimbojones1971 November 8th, 2011 07:59 PM

Re: Tiny Cataclysm - Running

News flash: Red wins battle. National Day of Shame declared.

In breaking news, our on the spot journalist can confirm that Red has won a battle. This appears to be the result of a misunderstanding between the units in question and high command, where the order "roll over and show your belly to the enemy to deter aggression" was mis-interpreted as "kill them them all!!".

We understand that orders have been issued for the units involved to dig a large hole and bury themselves alive, and that a national Day of Shame has been declared in response to this excessive display of competence.
