Cloaking bug ... or?
Ok. I'm new at this. I sent a cloaked ship through an enemy system and found a colonizable planet on the other side, so far so good.
I have a non-cloaked satelite group on the warp point in their system, that the enemy picks fights with but never gets into range. I created a cloaked colonizer, a cloaked attack ship, and a cloaked supply ship. I made them into a fleet. I sent the fleet through and *blam* -- they saw my fleet. Does cloak not work for fleets? Did the presence of a non-cloaked ship make them enter attack and then see my cloaked ships? My ships were cloaked during tactical combat -- but they targeted me anyway? What went wrong? |
Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
If they have sensors capable of detecting your cloak, then they can attack you. Otherwise you should go right through them w/o attacking.
(In fact, you have to decloak to attack. Something I found out while doing some commerce raiding in a previous game.) ------------------ -- "What do -you- want?" "I'd like to live -just- long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this..." *waggle* "...can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?" |

Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
Commerce raiding as in moving your cloaked ship into the same sector as a lone transport or colony ship, decloaking and blowing it up.

Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
Sorry, forgot to mention.
They had no sensors on the ships at the wrap point. They're the Nutlah group -- I never played religious long enough to see if that gives them special sensors -- but I've have't yet met a ship of theirs with sensors listed in tactical combat. Remember -- lone cloaked ship flies through system -- no problem. Fleet of cloaked ships -- nabbed at warp point |

My ships were cloaked during tactical combat -- but they targeted me anyway? What went wrong?

Yes a single non-cloaked ship in a sector will cause combat to occur when a cloaked fleet of the same player enters. If you have even a single non-cloaked ship in a fleet, the whole thing can get attacked. And cloaking has no effect during combat. Once tactical begins all ships decloak. ------------------ Compete in the Space Empires IV World Championship at www.twingalaxies.com. |
Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
Actually, if I'm not mistaken (and I could very well be), the non-cloaked ship doesn't even have to be part of the cloaked fleet, just in the same space. If combat occurs, all units in the space from all sides appear in tactical combat, cloaking doesn't matter.

Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
If you have one uncloaked ship in a fleet, will your opponent only know about the one ship?
If so, you can use a colony(or any)ship as bait!!! When the enemy attacks he will be ambushed by a larger force than he intended to do battle with!!! |
Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
Guys
I believe there may be a bug with cloaking. I just had a lone cloaked ship attacked by an AI ship (Phong) that had no sensors and definitely should not have seen my ship. It occurred at a warp point as I came through. Elmo |
Re: Cloaking bug ... or?
Perhaps cloaking doesn't work at worm holes, you know those always cause problems with computer systems http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
