What\'s the formula for penetration?
Allright, for most everything in the game the formula is
stat + 2d6 open ended vs stat + 2d6 open ended, but what is the offensive stat for penetration vs magic resist? I know there are items that give bonuses, but surely there is some base number and it is not penetration bonus + dr vs magic resist + dr, is it? |
Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
I dont know by heart, but I am pretty sure that the formula is either already within the Dom2 manual itself or within liga's manual addenda which can be obtained through various links given in the sticky threads...

Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
P. 16 §6.4.4 of the manual. The penetration value is (11+((magic skill of mage in relevant path-magical skill level needed for spell)/2)+2d6oe). Compare to resistance value: (mr+((the targets skill in relevant path(the path of the spell being resisted))/2)+2d6oe). Pen-value > res-value = ouch. For spells affecting the entire battlefield, use 7 instead of 11 for pen value.
I just got the game, so I read this yesterday http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
The really interesting question is whether penetration bonus from items stack or not, and if they do stack, how? (Given that stacking of abilities in Dominions 2 often appears to be handled ad hoc). In other words, if a mage has a Rune Smasher (+2) in hand and wears a Ring of Sorcery (+1) and a Ring of Wizardry (+1), is his penetration bonus +2 (highest modifier), +3 (+1 modifier set and +2 modifier set) or +4 (sum of all modifiers)

Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
Sum of all Modifiers, but it applies the same rule of all magic items that same items won't stack. So you can't use 2 Spell Foci to get +4 then a Rune Smasher for an additional 2.
It shouldn't be that uncommon to see Nature and Astral casters with some of those equipped. |
Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
Thanks ckfnpku (if that is your real name, ahem), i could not find that even before i lost my copy of the manual.

Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
Okay, so what does it mean that "Magic resistance negates easily" the spell of Curse of Stones?
|
Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
Oh, I guess "Magic resistance negates easily" just means it is a battlefield-wide spell.
|
Re: What\'s the formula for penetration?
"Magic resistance negates easily" gives a bonus of +4 for the magic resistance check (Pocus let me know about the "easily" part, so direct all praise towards him, and any blame as well).
