Unexpected Intel feature.

Normally when a Counter-Intel (CI) project completes you get a project failed message, but with CI Level 2 and 3, if the project completes and another empire has an Intel project targeting that empire, the CI disrupts the targeted Intel project without having to overcome the second empires’ CI pool.

What’s worse is the first empire gets the same message as if the targeted Intel project had been used against them, but failed to overcome the CI pool. And the second empire gets a message that looks like an Intel sabotaged project had been used against them.

In the test game I used, it only affects the first Intel project of the first empire that was targeted against the empire with the completed CI level 2 or 3 project. I didn’t do exhaustive testing, but the level or cost of the targeted Intel didn’t seem to matter. Also, the CI point pool was bypassed when destroying the targeted Intel project.

It is an expensive way to destroy targeted Intel projects, but could be useful for mods.

So, what led you to believe it was me? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think I'll try to test this too, if I can understand your explanation.

Looks like it might have interesting mod potential, as you said, unless it is limited to only one, and always the same, attacking empire.

Re: Unexpected Intel feature.

Pvk, during testing it only took out one project (the first one in the list targeted the empire with the completed CI project) and all ways the same empire if more than one empire had targeted projects. Multiple CI2 projects completing on the same turn would take out different targeted Intel projects, but still it just went down the list.

Sivran, One way to verify it would be to reload your turn from before the event and after, compare your Intel projects; one CI project should have rolled over or expired from your Intel queue.

Mmm, thanks for the detail. Too bad it only works that way.

Ah, here we are. On 2407.3 (turn number 75, PBWShatteredHopes_75.zip), I received a message that I had stopped an attack from your empire Glyn. Also on this turn one of my CI projects "failed" (ie filled up). Was it here that you got a message that I had "attacked" you? Thing is, I had no offensive projects running.

Of course on the very next turn I blocked 3 attacks from you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif And we know the rest..

Yea, I got an event message saying something along the lines of One of my Intel project was destroyed via counter intelligence and that Twi’eqt was suspected of this dastardly deed. At the time I thought you had used maybe an Intelligence sabotage project, but I didn’t under stand how it would have gotten through my CI defenses. So I reacted by sending three Intelligence sabotage projects back.
The misunderstanding almost started a war!
