HMG splashes

Hi,

I'm currently playing a PBEM game in which the .50 hmg's show a 1 hex radius 'splash' effect (so carrying over into adjacent hexes) when used in direct fire mode but only the hmg infantry teams I've deployed. The .50's on my tanks or halftracks do not show a splash effect in neither direct fire nor area fire. Is this intentional? It seems odd to me.

My side is french, game is ME (vs Soviet Union), in 8/56.

Re: HMG splashes

Only a MG fired by weapon class three will do so. Call it a game quirk

I don't consider it a game quirk Don. The type of MG's which have splash ability for the most part are Infantry tripod models. These weapons allow for locking in the weapon and adjusting fire within set arcs. These weapons are capable of indirect fire though the use and training on this capability had become for the most part a lost art. I feel this gives the infantry weapons a slight edge with balances the game. Armored units firing their weapons would most likely be doing so on the move and not in as long of sustained fire as an infantry model. An infantry model would set up and stay in place while it fired so it could sweep and fire longer bursts. This is one aspect of the game I think works out real well.
