arrows from castles, details please

i was playing a small little test game on unrelated stuff.
so i attacked one castle, it was firing about 30 arrows/round in castle defense arrows.
another one i attacked later had NO arrows.
i watched over multiple turns. it was the same nation. and i was watching quite carefully. and tehre were no defending archers to confound things.
So what's up with the huge variations? it'd be nice to know the exact details of how many shots you actually get, and what causes it to vary.
the manual only gives a base number, it doesn't explain these kinds of variations.

All the archers were on holiday at the first castle.

This explains everything. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Different types of castle perhaps?

It could be that the castles were different, and thus had different amount of towers. It seems that the manual doesn't mention the amount of towers each castle has. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Pity.

I think Edi's dom3 files list the number of towers.

Different types of castle have different firepower. It would be nice if they had an overall firepower rating you could look at alongside defence value. But given that people basically ignore everything other than cost and turns taken to build, it is sort of pointless.

i couldn't find any suhc info in the domdb stuff. at least not in the forts section.
while it may not be a big deal, it does matter some, so i'd like to know. in particular, if a fort is gonna have a significant number of arrows on defense, i'd make a point of always having a commander to defend it for a few rounds. also, it matters a good deal if your fighting a nation that's bad at taking the choke point of a castle.

The tower information is not in the DB. Besides that, the fort weaponry is based on the nation. Different nations can have different weapons in the same type of fort, IIRC.

the manual does list what weaponry each nation has for fort towers; what i want to know is how many towers each fort has. cuz there's a big difference in having 30 arrows to help defend ya and zero.

Well, I don't have any answers for you in that department. If nobody else has either, you're stuck with finding out on your own.
