It has begun......
 
I will only post this and say no more.
It cannot stop. It can only grow in speed and strength until it is finished.
Phase 1 will be released shortly (2 days)
Phase 2 will follow afterwards (4 days)
after that.. who knows.

Nice utility. Can I suggest a few features?

Realtime TCP/IP play mode.
Support for >10,000 systems per galaxy (50 galaxies per game)
Newtonian physics for space flight.
Dynamic 3D system maps (to scale).
Full simulation of industrial logistics.
Weapon arcs and tactical gravity wells.
Space monsters.

Just got back from work so I'm back to work on the mod editor.

Liga: I will supply the code to anyone that e-mails me for it.
I will also supply the code for the mod selection utility if people want.

On a side note, some of the details you posted are to be included in my next project (once this one is finished)
The Space Empires 4 Screensaver.
OpenGL based. 3D models. *and* uses the SE4 data files (so you can design the same ships and watch them fight it out!)

I will have some of the groundwork done by writing the mod editor (the file handling etc) and the rest shouldn't take me too long (a few weeks maybe).

ok the Alpha image has been updated
So far, the program reads in all of the component information, and then you can browse through them using the scrollbars on the left.
Tomorrow I will add saving any changes you make and add the bits that are just lables.

It should save to the mod folder and pull from there also.
I don't want to overwrite the orginal game folders.
