Undead work, too, though at a disadvantage (Poor Amphibians). Soulless in particular end up with Attack/Defense/Etc. in the 2-4 range. Spectrals work well if you're LA Ermor.

Thanks, everyone. All of the answers above make a lot of sense, and it sounds like starting with high dominion pays off in a lot of ways even on large maps with ample gold.

That worked! The Video Preferences menu shows a resolution of "1" selected, but the actual resolution is 1920 x 1200. Thanks!

I tried using the command line option:
dom3.exe -r res 1920 1200
The main menu launches without changing my monitor's resolution, but the menu just has the Exit option under the "Choose a Nation"...

unfortunately, that prevents most of the other useful keyboard shortcuts from working (e.g. 'r' recruit, 't' army, even the map filters '1', '2', etc.).

After ending my turn by accident twice in the last 4 turns, I was wondering if there was any way to either:
1. Disable the 'e' key, since I can at least hide the right-hand menu from accidental hits...
