I did a search on this question and didnt see anything but is there a way to scrap or upgrade weapon platforms? Many a time I build wpf's with early tech but with limited cargo space as the game...

Actually IMO I thought that the Renegade Legion Universe would be nice especially since it primarily focus's on ships but Fasa did come out with a great tank Version of which the name escapes me atm...
