why 100kt power? In the demo I just haven't seen power as that big an issue, 50kt seems fine for a cruiser, and that's running 4 beams 2 heavies, and 2 point defence cannons.

You aren't exceeding the size of your cargo holds are you? If so you get a hefty speed penalty, depending on how much you've exceeded it by.

I agree also, the game moves a lot faster than I'd like. (Athlon xp t-bred @2ghz Radeon 64mb)

I thought it was a design issue, but maybe for some reason it runs faster on some systems than...
