I have recently played Pangaea with a dual9 medusa pretender. White centaurs with a lvl9 earth and nature blessing (berserk +6) become powerhorses, literally.
Sometimes I had satyrs with javelins...

Boots are good, but as I remember, only sidhe champions and bards can wear them. All the best mages of Tuatha (Sidhe Lords and Tuatha themselves) are mounted.
