Re: Computer Experience vs Crew

True. However, I am trying to play my race as a bunch sentient computers.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Re: The Ship Class You Use Most

Warships - Battle Cruisers without a doubt.

Civilian - Small Transports. I am always moving things about.

Re: Machine race

I am still tweaking things. However, I am heading off to a combo Model Train/Computer show and will not be getting back to it until later tonight. I appreciate the suggestions though.

Re: Mines could add a lot of game depth

I generally don't like mines in SEIV. They take a lot of work, and even though the AI is currently dealing with them very well in my game, the general consensus is that the AI doesn't handle them...

I pretty much use computers as soon as possible. The hazards of being an AI myself. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: Remote minning

In a system with nothing but asteroids, if I remote mine will those resource be available to my empire? There is no starport, and I have never tried it out.

Re: Mine Follies

Ok, I got tied up working on a Totaler Krieg turn the other night, but I did manage to get in a few turns this morning.

I know that the AI isn't supposed to group minesweepers, but my minefields...

Re: Machine race

Years ago. I haven't read any the recent stories. The first one I remember reading had something to do with playing chess to fool the Bezerker or something. I also remember reading Bezerker...

Re: How\'s this for a start...

I second dmm's opinion that you will find it a more interesting game. My Halogen game has been riveting, even if I am mostly getting my butt kicked.

Re: How can we get MM to answer a simple question here?

Can you imagine the torrent of email he must be receiving? Yikes!

Of course I don't seem to be as anxious as some, but I attribute that to having very little spare time to actually play the game....

Re: Machine race

That is a very good question. I'll see if I can't setup a test condition this weekend, unless someone else already knows the answer.

Re: Mine Follies

I don't know how many ships the computer has at the moment(I'll check tonight), but the production difference was 6 times greater. I don't feel doomed yet. I'll be playing a couple of more turns...

Re: Mine Follies

Yes, I picked that up from some of the other Messages on the board. However, my oponent is now six times large than me and a flood of ships keep coming at me.

Re: Machine race

I think reducing happiness to 50% gave me back 750pts. I made up whatever the rest was by reducing trade.

Re: Machine race

Isn't it cheating then to use a reduced happiness to pay for Emotionless? I may have to play around with some other values because it doesn't seem right.

Re: Mine Follies

Mostly messed around with my machine race Last night, but did put in a few turns on my Halogen game. It is looking very grim.

The AI swept part of my minefield and then punched through a 10 BB,...

I played around with the concept some more Last night. I am using 2000pts for the race. I took the worker trait, figure it represents the specialized robots used for extraction. Thought about the...

Re: Computer AI bonus

I think I play fairly aggressively. Maybe I am just researching the wrong techs at the wrong times. I find starting off on Ice/Methane worlds an incredibly more difficult game. I think I am in...

Re: Mine Follies

I don't use mines usually. I am in such desperate straights in the current game that I resorted to mines. The computer throws a minesweeper through that sweeps most if not all of my mines and then...

Machine race

I would like opinions on what everyone thinks would be appropriate for a machine race. All the ships will have master computers, but what else should the race have?

Thanks.

This is my first use of mines in SEIV. I don't use them, but in this particular game I really don't have a choice. The computer is effectively sweeping my minefields, BTW. I think it only a matter...

Re: Computer AI bonus

The choices you make on building your race and the tactics you use, dictate how much of a challenge you get from the computer players.

If you choose gas giants as a homeworld, min/max your race...
