This game has a lot of bugs. For that matter, the RNG itself may be considered a bug, and yet we live with it. So apparently, being hit by a bug that prohibits you from recruiting an underwater...

Exactly. The initial game post didn't specify this. Frankly, I knew it was a bug but I wouldn't consider that an "exploit" anymore than using an alteration site to wish for gems an "exploit".

I started next to dark vines, elephants, and horse archers. And when I took the horse archers province (phew!) it was adjacent to barbarians and moar barbarians, and one relatively lightly defended....

It's under User CP -> Edit Options -> Private Messaging. It's a bit awkward to find. You can also choose to receive email from other forum members, which I think makes it greatly easier to...
