Re: A Desperate Plea to MM for Better Mod Support
Great news. I just got an email back from Aaron at MM today on my mod suggestions here. I'm posting the text of the message below for everyone to see:
"You have excellent suggestions. We've been...

Re: Raising The Bar...
On the manual issue, I've suggested to MM that they turn their HTML manual into a right-click, context sensitive help file that can be accessed directly from the game.
The hard part is done, all...

Re: Raising The Bar...
Although I completely understand the points expressed in this topic, in fairness to MM I think you need to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Just reading and answering emails alone can be an all...

Re: SEIV as OPEN SOURCE?
The problem is that this isn't a good economic business model for a small company such as MM. They'd kill themselves IMO if they went the whole open source route.
However, many other games,...

Jubala,
Yes, I did mail it off to MM today. Your suggestion does sound good too. They could just stick the name of the mod as identified in the mod header file into the savegame as another...

Re: A Desperate Plea to MM for Better Mod Support
Londo,
That may well be true but what about when the next MM patch comes out and you have to reinstall your changed files all over again?
This change wouldn't be that hard for MM to do and...

A Desperate Plea to MM for Better Mod Support
There's no doubt in my mind that SE4 is the most customizable game ever in the 4X genre. MM has very thoughtfully provided the data files for the game in a text format that is easily accessible by...

Re: Devastating RCE -- Please Help
My guess as a programmer is that there might be an upper limit of 255 ships per battle (possibly per player) and this is what's causing the range check error. Sounds like a subscript blew somewhere....

Re: Difference between PBEM and TCP/IP
The only way complex turn based games like SE4 ever work at all with TCP/IP is if the other players get to do something interesting during the other player's turns. Set waypoints, change ship's...

"Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely".
Here we see yet another classic example of that hoary old maxim. Maybe you can sell the rights to your Empire's story and then Hollywood can...

Right you are. This is the granddaddy of them all. One of the all time classic scifi series and one to which all games in this genre owe a large debt. I vote for a Lensman mod.
Republished in the...

I think that sounds like a balanced solution and would work. Wonder if MM ever tried that and, if so, why they didn't implement it.

Talenn,
You make some excellent points. I suppose one major difference between SE4 and MOO2 tactical combat is the 30 turn limit on tactical combat sessions in SE4. In effect I suppose this in...
