Somebody mentioned that you can trade 2 escorts for any 1 ship of light cruiser or smaller size, and 3 escorts for any 1 ship of any size and the AI will always accept.

Kewl. I normally send ships with repair facilities with my strike forces, but I'll have to experiment with ship yards instead. It should make my carriers more effective as I too run out of fighters...
