Re: OT: Converting .pdf to .doc or .txt

You don't need a rewriter to read it.
Don't they let you bring in music CDs?

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

I thought that was obvious given the context.

Basically the Earth's acceleration is not in the same direction as the incident light from the sun.

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

Its not the angular speed, but a phase shift that I was talking about.

Measurements of Earth's acceleration show that we are accelerating towards the Sun's current position (to the precision of...

Re: OT: Converting .pdf to .doc or .txt

How about a rewritable CD?
Or just collect a whole bunch of books and burn them all to a regular CD?

Re: OT: Converting .pdf to .doc or .txt

If you can't save as text, it may be just a picture for the whole page.

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

Equal and opposite reactions.

If the sun was perfectly still there wouldn't be a problem. But earth (mostly jupiter, due to mass&distance) pull on the sun too.

If the sun's gravity appears to...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

There are a number of observations that do indicate that:

As MCT mentioned, however, the earth accelerates towards...

Re: OT- power problem?

That's just momentum and then bouncing between the magnets http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

There are caps in there used to convert the power and stabilize the output. If...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

Except that the folks living on the balloon aren't expanding since they are held together by gravity, electromagnetism, and nuclear forces.

Light will take longer and longer to get from each of...

Re: Any One Still Playing This Game?

Hm. That's odd, it didn't save my changes until I ended turn in a game, but now its sticking.

Re: Armor question

I'd also suggest something regenerative, such as shields or OA on top of the emissive armor.

That way you'll get an extra couple of points taken off each hit and reduce the amount that gets past...

Re: OT- power problem?

If you pull the AC plug, the lights should fade as the capacitors drain.

Consider it a safety feature; if the light is on, you don't want to poke your fingers in.

I can't tell what Xrati is arguing for...
Are you pushing "stock is the holy word of Aaron", or "mod it and quit complaining"?

Does anybody happen to know where the default keymapping is?...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

While you would have two regions that are independent, the space between them is still contiguous.

It is entirely possible to be unable to reach point C from point A, but at the same time be able...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

If you had a set of points, A, B and C, where A and B were right at the limit of losing contact, and B and C were right at the limit of losing contact. B is located right in the middle between A and...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

Aside from your negative time problem, I guess the issue is in trying to relate your model to reality when it is just too different.

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

So, back to my initial issue: "twice as far away as the big bang" is absurd.

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

Presuming all of your topology and a fixed rate of expansion, why are you measuring "distances" through your time axis?

Go far enough back in time... and you start going forward again, but on the...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

Come on, man.

Its not 20B light years away.
Its 20B years away.
Those are completely different units.

The size of the *visible* universe (roughly, time since photons were released * speed of...

Re: Any One Still Playing This Game?

Self destruct doesn't deserve its own hotkey IMO.
Being a Turn Based game with lots of commands, twitch access is not important.

SE4 did it right. The most-used commands get their first letter...

Re: OT: Gravity, Dark Energy, Universal expansion

The big bang didn't occur in some particular part of spacetime, but rather it is when everywhere was the all the same place.

It makes no sense to say that something is twice as far away as the big...

Re: Strange Tech jump

The starting techs were set long long ago on the first turn, and that specific thing won't have any effects on an ongoing game aside from certain races being more advanced.

If you're ejecting people into space, the population capacity can't be worth much either.

Keep the starting points in the low 9 digit range to be safe from overflows.
