Re: Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

huh, that's an interesting idea. I may have to give that a shot. They'd be able to slug it out with light vehicles for sure, which the armoured cars can't do.

Later on, I can always find something...

Re: Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

No tin-can's for me :) Trucks only. Im not sure if there might be some halftracks hiding somewhere, but that wouldn't seem right, as I doubt they made any copies or kept many ww2 lend-lease tracks...

Re: Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

Some reflections on the opposition:

Centurions are the friggen devil. My T44 wasted Churchill tanks and Shermans with relative ease but the Centurions are dangerous game.
At short ranges the...

Re: distance for company CO and the battalion CO

Unless I am playing soviets, I try to stick the company commander some 300 meters behind the one or two platoons in front, along with any machine guns that the company may have, or that I've given...

Re: could it be possible to display double-byte characters?

Opfire kind of represents that it is a constant firefight.

It does depend a bit though: Lower experience units shoot less often, suppressed units shoot less often, and it seems that after taking...

Re: What is wrong with RPGs?

The RPG-2, RPG-7 and so forth were pretty much developments of the Panzerfaust concept of a simple, man portable weapon that could be issued to the infantry squad and probably stuck around as much...

Re: Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

I just set it to end in 1991, but I figure I'll play as long as I like.

Enemies are USA, Britain and France.

Reflections. 1946 USSR campaign

Just finished the fourth battle, moving my current campaign to 1947.

With that, I wanted to note a few observations.

My force is 3 companies of infantry in trucks, 1 company of tanks, with each...

RPG2 available in 1946?

Unfortunately I don't have any book at hand, but it seems rather strange that soviet troops can buy RPG2 equipped infantry in 1946.

My recollection was that these didn't show up until the very end...

Re: Egypt sandbag HMG pit with NVG circa 1957

SP always reminds me of Command Decision, if you ever played that? Might be a bit later than WRG though. That was a bit before my time :)

More of a 15mm guy though.

Re: When did 2 MG per soviet section become standard?

That probably seems reasonable. Most sources I've read that discuss the organizations after the BMP was introduced mention 2 squad automatics being common, but I've had a hard time finding hard info...

Re: Egypt sandbag HMG pit with NVG circa 1957

That as well.

It represents many forms of technical means available to a defender of a fixed position that really do not need specific games rules that simply add unnecessary complications.

So...

Re: Best infantry. 1940s post WW2

Re: T key accuracy report varies

Maybe a related question, but for units with 2 identical weapons (typically 2 LMG slots) sometimes the accuracy displayed when you fire will be a percent or two different between the two weapons.

Re: Suggestions for Belligerents

The Finns employed a small number of captured tanks.

Spain can be a lot of fun. There weren't that many tanks around, but they did have some armour vs armour battles, so maybe set that up and give...

Best infantry. 1940s post WW2

What are your picks (In Steel Panthers terms) for the best infantry squads you can get in the 1946-1949 time frame ?

I figure if people are into it, we can do this for each decade, and maybe talk...

When did 2 MG per soviet section become standard?

THis is more a question really.

I know Soviet equipment were often in a state of flux, particularly between different category units, but does anyone have a reasonable guide to when it started...

Re: Rally question

I'd be happy to try and help but I am a little uncertain of what you are looking for.

Are you wanting to know how rallying works in game mechanics, or how to best use it as a player?

Thanks!

Re: Rally question

I have to agree with you here.

So that makes my opinion as humble as yours?[/QUOTE]

Another point of agreement. That would be exceedingly nice in a future patch

Are air craft suppressed?

Been reading "weapons and tactics of the soviet army" and one of the things it mentions is that even inferior AA can reduce the ability of planes to accurately deliver their missions.

Is this...

Re: Flak woes.

Unless you have a pile of them and are lucky, AA fire is likely to be pretty hit and miss, with a lot more of the missing.

If you have a group of guns covering the same area, they will bring down...

Re: How do you deal with French tanks

The things that can be exploited is their fairly mediocre morale ratings and the fact that they tend not to get as many main gun shots off as your crews will.

Shell them mercilessly. If you can...
