I always use dates as part of version numbers. I'll start with 1.(date), like 1.070106 for something compiled today, and will go up to 2.x, 3.x, and so forth when there is something truly major...

Dom III is still cooking merely away. I'm not sure if you'd say it is in beta or still alpha, but a lot of work has been done already. It is looking really, really good....
