That's because ground combat gets a separate damage line, and space-based DUCs can't fire during ground combat.

It doesn't cause a problem. I've done it many times when a computer died so I could make emergency backups before doing repairs.

If you want ship strategies to take effect, have the ships Break Formation.

Kwok probably just hasn't implemented that feature yet, since it was only added in the 1.33 patch.

Check the retreat options to make sure they changed, first. There's a bug in 1.33 that won't let you change strategies very much.

Second, I think unarmed (or all weapons gone) ships run by default...

It works, yeah. Once a war gets to any sort of length, you can't spare the shipbuilding time to make massive ships. Sure, you can work in parallel..but the same trick works for building small ships...

Tonnage structure is the amount of damage it takes to kill a facility (or component). In this case, its 1000 plus 20 times the level for every level past 1.
