Re: New Player questions

shouldn't that link just be removed so as to not confuse players?
Ideally, the info should be updated, but until then, IMO it's better to have partially correct info available, than to not...

Re: Questions 2 of 5

Using 'w' to toggle the battlefield between the "wallpaper" and "wireframe" modes helps a lot if the response to the camera controls is sluggish.

Re: Dominion Spread? Manual p. 94

The analogy to a liquid is quite helpful in understanding its behavior. When one "container" (province) is "full", it "spills over" into an adjacent one. If that province is "full", it continues to...

Re: OT: Favourite Boardgames

There are sites that still love the game (nothing seems to ever die thanks to internet). Some sites have downloadable printable files for all of the game pieces and board pieces. And the Manual. So...

Re: OT: Favourite Boardgames

I'll second the recommendations for:

Carcassonne
RoboRally
Arkham Horror
Talisman

If you're interested in seeking out OOP titles, I'd also recommend:

Dungeonquest

Re: Illwinter News/Update?

Ooh, there's an idea: a (non-MMO) CRPG where the player controls Bogus' adventuring party as they go about liberating blood slaves and overthrowing oppressive local rulers, etc.

Re: New Player questions

There are things in the manual that are wrong, often because they were changed in patches. There are entire nations not mentioned in the manual that were added in patches, as well. These forums are...

Re: Favorite "Indie" Games

The first half of that, while widely quoted, is a rather poor translation.

In the original German:
"Wer mit Ungeheuern kämpft, mag zusehn, dass er nicht dabei zum Ungeheuer wird. Und wenn du...

Re: New Player questions

In solo games of Dom3, efficiently isn't as critical, because the AI nations aren't nearly as strong opponents as you'll face in multiplayer. One of the strengths of the game design is that there...

Re: Hex Editor on SE IV?

I'm usually a single-player person, and I didn't even think about cheaters. I don't see it as a problem for simultaneous games, since they're processed by the game host using a single .exe
I...

Re: Hex Editor on SE IV?

Which is probably why no-one who has done it has replied in a public forum.

Everyone whom I know of who did hex-edit the .exe was kicked off the old PBW site for cheating.

I suspect the 255...

Re: Aerosol Crimes

I came back this soon to edit out the part about "Gaia-worshipping ecofreaks", but you'd already replied. I apologize for that bit of hyperbole.

That's the only part I'll apologize for, though.

Re: Aerosol Crimes

Then why do you have to keep going on and on and on about it, rather than bothering to do a little research about what might actually be happening? You don't seem to have enough information to tell...

World Re: Aerosol Crimes

Once again, spring is in the air, and the thread necromancers' fancies turn to dead horses, as usual.

What "reason" do conspiracy buffs have to assume superheated water vapor cooling back down to...

Re: Slashdot: The "Game Industry" model is collapsing

Much the same things are said in every cycle of the "console games are killing the PC game industry" debate, computer role-playing games vs. table-top/paper & pencil RPGs, RPGs vs. wargames,...

Re: Working underwater without gills

I've never defeated an underwater nation with land troops. Dominion kills have so far been faster and less resource intensive in SP for me.

Re: Off topic: How are games failing you?

IMO, "Real-Time Strategy" is an oxymoron. I've tried a couple of "pausable" RTS titles (Star Wars Rebellion, Europa Universalis II), and still found that there was just too much to keep track of. AI...

Re: Off topic: How are games failing you?

This is where the current market fails me the most. The more an interface demands real-time actions, the less I enjoy the game. My reflexes weren't all that good even back when I was a teenager, and...

On second thought, I'm just going to stop reading these forums for a while, before I'm provoked into posting something that deservedly draws a cooling-off ban. The signal-to-noise ratio around here...

Re: Ship abilities & Troops

There is no way to predict how much discussion a seemingly simple question will generate, or whether the discussion will be interesting (which is purely subjective anyway).

Re: Ship abilities & Troops

I didn't have anything to add since the last time (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=38662) we argued over this. I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince Fyron to stop wasting...

Re: Did you know that? (Dominions trivia)

Are you sure about that? Normally, when you assign a stack of units, any excess beyond the commander's capacity simply isn't assigned. Two of those Myrmidons shouldn't have moved from the garrison or...
