Also, make sure you don't have neutral computer empires in the game. They definitely screw up the other computer players because they block expansion.

Thrusters and Afterburners

The enemy ships have a low (20%) chance of having Afterburners, and a 0% chance of having Maneouvering Thrusters.

I suspect that this is one of the reasons why the enemies get easier as the levels...

Or, it reloads if you quit the game completely, and restart.

It will keep the same components, even if you reload the game.
Which can transport components back in time if you sell some stuff,...

It sounds like some sort of bug with the time calculation. Do you have any save files from before the mission? ...

I get this bug where the occasional object, be it planet, ship or star base, is invisible. Sometimes reloading the game clears it, sometimes not.

I have to assume that asteroids can be invisible...
