Have a look into the thread "reasons why the AI runs out of ressources" HreDaak gives detailed descriptions of how to improve the planet-types file. The other files can be improved likewise.

Yes I hope so too! I got the AI to use the planets much more intelligently by modifiying that planet-types file with assistance by HreDaak.

Another problem is that the AI builds research centers on a 120% minerals planet but mineral miner facilities on a planet that has almost no minerals.

Get it to a spaceyard (or get a spaceyard to the ship) and hit that green recycle button you use to retrofit or scrap ships. Then select the ship and IO and behold there you have the analyze command....

the game being in delphi is too bad. But why do people think open source would get "distributed" (pirated that is) any more freely than other software?

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but it definitely would be great for SEIV to be open source.
There are so many ideas around worth having in the game that it is just impossible for MM...

I think maybe the profit question is not that hard to solve. To be entitled to contribute and program or for gaming you have to buy the "developer's kit". I don't see why the open source variant...

I know the problem all too well(sigh). I think it could be fixed quite easy if there was a "don't fire upon type: has no shields" and if you would build strong warships with one or two boarding...
