IIRC darkness has worked in cave forts before this. Or my memory is playing tricks on me. In any case, there were no darkness related fixes in this patch, so there is no working autodarkness in cave...

On advice when starting modding: look for existing nation mods, it will help greatly as the modding manual is very good as a reference, but lacking in the exemples department.

You can put your devils at the back, and give them orders to hold and attack rear, this way they will wait 2 turns, letting your opponent battle line disperse while advancing, and when they attack...
