Re: what mix of forces do you use in PBEM?

My preferences are for no snipers at all or if the opponent insist on having some, at most 1 per infantry type company.
Also, I prefer no (gunship) helicopters. I personally feel that both snipers...

Re: Missing french formations

Thanks for the replies but I do have to disagree I'm afraid. Now off course my information could be wrong but according to those the available formations don't cover everything. And by everything I...

Re: Playtesting comments (third-party scenarios)

Don't worry, I don't 'fix' things myself. I know very well that I know not nearly enough about the game to just go fiddling along by myself without making a mess!

Re: obat44 - West Germany

Hi Andy,

I agree completely with you. I did and do consider the current discussion here one of finding out if and which improvements could or should be made, not concrete suggestions (not yet...

Re: obat44 - West Germany

Actually, two out of the twelve HS brigades were at near full strength in peacetime and under operational control of the field army (one heavy brigade attached to the gebirgsdivision for example)....

Re: obat44 - West Germany

There are no specific 'Heimatschutzen (HS)' cie's in the game. It looks like the game does cover the tank cie's though since the M48 remains available when it was only in service with the HS...

Re: obat44 - West Germany

Alpha, thanks for the info. I haven't checked out your alternative obat (yet). It's one of many things on my mental 'to do' list! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

DesertFox,...

Missing french formations

The french obat misses many Foreign Legion formations. Besides the independent (mot) infantry cie's, the legion also is represented in the regular armed forces. The 2REI (Regiment etranger...

Re: obat44 - West Germany

One error spotted:
Grenadier units 216, 217 and 218 have 6 HEAT ammo (at PEN 0) for their G3 rifles.

An OOB question:
Why are german regular rangers (unit 423) 19 points per squad (8/89) and the...

Re: reverse slope defence

Have you checked out the different warhead types? HEAT type warheads are excellent for longer ranges because their penetration value drops much less (if any at all...) at increased ranges, unlike AP...

Re: Austria OOB part 1

Except for the 'recce company' all of the ones you mentioned are absent from the OOB and I'm familiar with none of them.

The Sicherungs and Landwehr formations are especially interesting since in...

I'm interested for sure!
Could you give a breakdown of those other formations too?

Thanks,

Re: Playtesting comments (third-party scenarios)

Finished the scenario.

Final results were 3157 vs 369 (in favor of the USMC) with all VH's in USMC hands.
I did replay the first 3 turns once (due to crashes) so it wasn't completely a 'virgin...

Re: Trojan found

Hi, sorry for my absence lately. I figured I could keep in touch here during my 'holidays' but as you might have noticed that wasn't really the case.
Should be allright from now on.

Re: Retreat?...No, just redeploying in a tactical way!

I use retreats a lot for another purpose, to misdirect the enemy artillery. As a fencer, I know the value of feints and misdirections in a confrontation!

By making your opponent think you have...

Re: Scenario proposals

Some good ideas there. Looks like we need to get together on this scenario!

I can see merit in both approaches so we'll have to work out which one works best in practice.
Maybe you can work out...

Re: Playtesting comments (third-party scenarios)

Haven't finished the scenarios yet, it keeps chrashing whenever a Panther hits one of the NK tanks with its cannon. Not sure if this is because of the scenario or my set-up.

Some observations...

Re: Scenario proposals

The main reason why I left out transports in my proposal is that they serve other uses besides transporting units and can be easily abused.
By not using these you can greatly simplify the scenario....
