Re: Maintenance Formula

Seems to me one of the simpler cures here would be to let seekers target sats. 8) This would prevent the "drop it off in bombardment range" problem.

However, from a wider perspective, should we...

Re: Maintenance Formula

I'm not sure about the need for upkeep. For all their various capabilities, mines, sats, and fighters are ultimately defensive weapons unless deployed by a fleet. You can deploy thousands of mines,...

Re: Rationale for 2D world in which planets don\'t move

Yup, same one.... might have run into me via Flanker, and also TacOps, BCT, TTLG (http://www.ttlg.com), Steel Beasts. Um, and probably others. 8)

Re: \'Opportunity Fire\' for Sattelites & WPs

Thanks for the formatting tip - I obviously need to spend more time with help files and less with rulebooks. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon12.gif

Glad you guys found the post...

Re: \'Opportunity Fire\' for Sattelites & WPs

In an impulse movement system, you break the turn down into a number of "impulses" equal to the fastest object in the game.

Then make a chart such that the movement of each "thing" is spaced out...

Re: Rationale for 2D world in which planets don\'t move

The planets and warp points *do* rotate.

(hands start waving about to help the explanation)

However, to keep everything simple, the viewport spins so that we always see one direction as "up",...

Re: Christmas Wish List (components wanted)

Black-hole warp drives would be nifty. 8)

You already have mine point-defence: your description is exactly what the mine-sweeping ship component works.

Re: Weapons

Shepherd: by using subtraction, your formula essentially compares raw damage, instead of damage per unit of space. Not quite as useful IMO, though if you'd like to argue it's better I'm happy to...

Re: Weapons

Is there any advantage to doing more damage with 1 weapon, over doing the same damage with 3?

In raw terms (ignoring rate of fire), the WMG III has an efficiency of 2.0; the PBB is either 2.0...

The attached Excel file is a work-inp-progress, but it does begin to answer some of your questions. Sort it by selecting a calculation row, then sort through the Data -> Sort -> Expand method (this...

There are 4 technologies you can gain only from ancient ruins:

Neural Computer Interface: Neural Combat Net

Massive Planetary Shielding: Massive Planetary Shield...

Re: How to Mine Asteroids?/Effects of Storms?

I'm actually hopefuly that eventually she'll play it - she's a gamer, and was a True MOO Addict for a while. So far, though, her attitude is that I can figure out how the thing works, then teach her...

Re: Please voice your support the following Victory condition for SE4:

Since most populations seem to start off Jubilant, you need to put in a time limit; before N years the condition doesn't kick in.

Re: How to Mine Asteroids?/Effects of Storms?

Re: How to Mine Asteroids?/Effects of Storms?

Sats are 50,000 per level; you get the first level for free. Researching the next two will take a total of 250,000 RPs.

Re: Sphereworld help please!

You need more starbases. Each one only holds *one* plate or cable component for 10kT of materials each.

You need 100kT of each for a ringworld and 200kT for a Dyson sphere. So you need 10 of...

Re: Game Manual in HTML Format ??????

For all that it is called the CD manual, it's actually installed to your hard drive. Confused yet? 8)

In the SEIV Start Menu section there ought to be a link to it; it's an HTML file.
