Doesn't a basic mine layer hold exactly as many mines as it can deploy in a turn? If you've got them near your colonies on repeat orders, you probably want to have it jsut full of layers. (Differnet...

Ahhh, okay, I was worried I was missing some way to set it to research level 1, then go direclty to level 2 when it was done. Glad to know I haven't been shooting myself in the foot.

Correct, although it was mostly an unessescarily sarcastic and obtuse way of saying "Becuase that doesn't work".

However, everyone's making comments about spening your first-turn bonus on things...

Make it up by capturing ships and anaylzing them for the tech.

Because you A: need the ship training facilities to train those ships in the first place, and B: because relying on Neural Networks...

Maybe you can get around this. Is it possible to attack, not the ships, but the system they're in? I think making their suns into black holes would work rather well, if you can afford it.

There's no reason having passive cloaking on would prevent htem from using their _own_ passive sensors. However, while this would lety ou see planets and so on, and ships visible with passive...
