SE5 runs ok on Vista, but performance tends to be worse than XP on the same machine due to the DX8 abstraction layer it has to go through.

Try increasing your graphics card's gamma setting (generally in the Nvidia or ATI control panel). Exactly how to do this changes as frequently as they change the GUIs for the drivers, so you'll want...

And standard packages of shared media exist for other games, too. Neverwinter Nights, for example, has/d a massive "Community Expansion Pack" that a lot of mods relied on.

That's a bad thing, actually. Standard packs of shared files are better for everyone involved. No time wasted re-downloading the same content over and over again. Less hard disk space wasted...
