SEV only truly shines in MP, where strategy can really change the outcome of the game. In SP an inefficient economy supporting brute force is enough.
IMHO it's better to play less complex games like...

That's a great idea! There is also the problem that IIRC in SE4, the more points you would add, the more they woud cost. It won't be easy to simulate.

They must give at least some damage distribution. If you place 3 components on the same slot on all 3 decks, which one will be damaged first? Will the damage be spread out between all 3 components...

AFAIK this option only forbids you from directly trading techs (something that the AI never does anyway). Sharing tech in treaties is not affected by this setting.

You should be able to see the enemy design, otherwise things like design stealing will get useless and you won't be able to plan ahead of the battle.
