I vote capital VPs only and half of them needed to win, thats more or less standard.

Non capital VPs can end the game in a very fast and -for a rpg- quite unlovely way...

The problem is easy explained: Touch of Madness costs 1 gem with CBM.

I think QM wants to prevent casting this often selfdestructing spell at all costs :)

I would also prefer only nations from 1 age. Maybe + some mod nations but no amos mods (i tried the insects some time ago and they are just insane!).
