Well, if you're an undead, death magic will increase old age.
I have an undead Shadow Dragon Pretender (mod), with default old age at 2500 years. By taking 9 death in magic path the old age is set...

Perhaps selecting Ermor when choosing which nation you want to mod and then mod the spawn monsters.
That would be a workaround.

It shouldn't be a problem on Ubuntu AFAIK.

Well, there's the default pretenders. AFAIK you can't select or de-select the default pretenders.
But if you made a commander you wish to make a pretender, use;

#pathcost XXX
#startdom XXX

If re-install of Vista doesn't work, you could dual boot with a linux OS to run dom3 and have Vista running prince of persia.
