Re: North Korea errors report

I don’t think they should be in the OOB unless there is some hard evidence that they were in reserve somewhere. Concord’s Tank Warfare in Korea looks at various Soviet shipments of armoured...

Re: North Korea errors report

I’m not sure about Unit 461 in the North Korean OOB. It is a SU-100 with a start date in 1951 during the Korean War. I don’t think the North Koreans used the SU-100 during that war. I have...

Re: NSV-12.7 HE Penetration (multiple nations)

I thought that would be the case. I just posted what I found out about the ammo to find out for sure.

Re: NSV-12.7 HE Penetration (multiple nations)

There is some information about 12.7 mm AP bullets in the Russia's Arm's catalogue:

http://www.rusarm.ru/cataloque/land_for/land_for_89-92.pdf

The AP-I-T BZT-44 was introduced some time before...

Staghound Mk I

I have a few suggestions for the Staghound Mk Is in WinSPWW2: (1) increase the crew to five (commander, gunner, loader, driver and bow gunner), (2) add a .30 cal Browning BMG and (3) slightly...

Re: Westland Wessex

It does seem to be the Royal Navy/Royal Marines who used armed Wessex helicopters rather than the RAF.

Armed Wessex transports

There were two configurations for armed Wessex transports. Some...

Re: Iraqi errors report - Part 2

I've just quickly looked up the 100 mm rounds in question in the Jane’s Ammunition Handbook. It isn’t particularly good for ‘older’ ammunition but here are a few quotes from the book.

Westland Wessex

I think the Westland Wessex helicopter (obat07/ Units 529 and 537) can only carry 12 men in the game. It could carry 16. i.e. two infantry squads.

There are also two or three armed versions of...

Re: Suhiir's Revised USMC OOB #13

I have a small suggestion for Obat 13 in general: add a new LBM for Unit 4. The LBMs in the current and revised USMC OOBs are quite generic whereas the POA-CWS-H5 had a very distinctive appearance....

Re: Early U.S. Army armed helos

I think a H-13 was tested in the States soon after the outbreak of the Korean War.

The Americans didn't run with the idea - but the French...

Re: Early U.S. Army armed helos

Yes. That’s what I meant. The U.S. Army formally adopted armed versions of the two helos with 2x30’s (which is what I meant by the XM-1 system) after the Korean War. Not 1946 or 1951.

Early U.S. Army armed helos

I do not believe the U.S. had any armed helos in service before or during the Korean War. There are two light attack helicopters in obat12 with availability start dates before the end of the Korean...

Re: Suhiir's Revised USMC OOB #13

I had the same problem downloading the Whirlybirds pdf at first. Then I right clicked on the link and chose "Save target as." I was then able to save it to my desktop without any problem.

I'll...

Re: Campaign Poll

The Miltech book only mentions the largest air bases. When I looked up the Eritrea-Ethiopia border war, I found that the Ethiopians had an air base at Mekele – which is much closer to the border. ...

Re: Campaign Poll

Presumably you mean other Ethiopian airbases. Debre Zeyit is the most important. According to Miltech there are other major military airbases near Goba and Harar/Jijiga. The Ethiopians may also...

Re: British OOB June 1944 - additional formations?

Looks like the regulars got the Brens and the Home Guard got the old Lewis gun. Many of them would have been familiar with it from the First World War. :D

Edit: Yes, Mobhack, the Lewis could be...

Re: British OOB June 1944 - additional formations?

AFAIK only one of the BEF's MC battalions went into action with its bikes: the 4th Northumberland Fusiliers. Amongst other things it provided recon for the British counter-attack at the Battle of...

Re: A30 Avenger

The Avenger’s turret was open topped with a roof perched over it. The stuff on the roof is probably the two hatch doors open and pushed forward.

An Avenger with its turret hatches open:

A30 Avenger

Another possible/optional unit for the British OOB (obat07) is the Avenger. It is already in winspww2: spob07/ Unit 138. The details for the Avenger in winspww2 are slightly inaccurate though. It...

Thinking about motorcycles in general, I suspect that a few more motorcycle units could be added to winspmbt.

Communist bikers

It is possible, for example, that motorcycle units...

I remember reading somewhere that the North Koreans used motorcycle troops for...
