I would suggest that for troops for at least one of the Ancients namely the Shadows , one could use the Drakh as a basic type with a shadow type as an elite troop. They were sycophantic minions.

Why not treat the fighters like the standard game did for ship movement. Give them a supply resource and engine consumption rate. If they "stay out" too long their movement drops to 1 space per turn....
