I think the atmospheric converter works on "none". Gas and none are not suppose to exist so that could be a problem but I don't know what happens if you put one here.

You will need a separate race file for your race. It will contain the shipset and I think it must have, as a minimum, a general file.
I would just copy a complete set of files from an existing AI...
