True, but once turned into a soulless the Transformation spell will work. The Transformation spell is risky, but a pretender can always be called back by priests. Once transformed into another creature the pretender can cast Twiceborn and thus become the desired WightMage.
I wouldn't recommend this scenario unless you feel comfortable winning the game.

True. But you
could stick the artifact Blood Pebble Armor on it, thus transforming it to a Troll eventually (it's even blood path.) You could then do
Transformation or
Twiceborn or
Life After Death on the Troll form.
Or you could, you know, just not move your inanimate pretender :-)
