Video slow on Linux
OK, so I got Linux set up and I can even run UT2004 (woot) but now I can't get Dominions to run at a decent framerate! I have a Diamond Stealth X300SE video card (ATI Radeon chipset) and it seems odd that UT2004 would work (after a bunch of cajoling) but not Dominions...
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer, and yes I am aware this sounds like a question that should have a date of 2003, not 2005

Hmm, if you haven't already done so, you should update your drivers at once. I had the same problem with my ATI Radeon, which was barely able to do better than 2 fps in fullscreen (before updating the drivers).
If you have already done so, or if it does not work, I have no other idea. But then, I am not supposed to be helpful with technical problems, so.

Update the drivers. And keep in mind, that even my X800pro only produces 16 FPS on "normal" details at 1280x1024. It's a known problem Dom2 has with ATI cards...
(Doom3, same resolution, maximum details: 30+ FPS...)

I think I have the most up-to-date drivers available... it's the ati-fglrx driver version 8.8.25.1-0.lvn.4.3@i386, and I do have the appropriate kernel module installed...

Ok, what is a "decent framerate" for you? If you have the latest drivers, there's not much you can do except for lowering the detail setting and/or resolution. |

It is well known that ATI drivers to linux sux, but they promised to make some decent drivers....but we've heard that song before.
That's why I'm using Nvidia. |

Decent framerate? Like greater than *three* fps at minimum detail on 1024x768?

				 Re: Video slow on Linux
Bad frame rate? That's also because the graphic part of the game isnt so... Well programed, probably due to the multi-OS compatibility.
My other computer (which has alot of problems) can run Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines at extremely high FPS rates consistently, yet even with the below-average graphics that dominion has, I can't get more than 20 or so FPS on normal.
I don't mean to bash Dominions, but you can't say I'm wrong without telling a lie :\

				 Re: Video slow on Linux
I have no ideas about Linux, but I am running Dom2 on a laptop with SuSE Linux9.2 and a Radeon Mobility 7500. I tried to install different drivers from ATI, but that did not help. Eventually I noticed that the SAX2 config-tool has folder with a checkbox named "enable 3d acceleration"... and now Dom2 runs real fast! So sorry I this is no big help, but it was all that I was missing... |

				 Re: Video slow on Linux
Hmm, I'm running Fedora, so I don't think I have SAX2, but I did just now find something called "system-config-display"... and that said I was using a generic video card! I'll change it to ATI Radeon X300 and see if my system doesn't freeze on "Configuring kernel parameters"...
