Default Ammo limits

I've been looking at LAW weapons and their ammo amounts.

It seems that most infantry squads are carrying absolutely staggering amounts of Ammo; some squads are carrying one LAW per man, including MG crews!

Now I'm wondering if this is based around game balance. Because in my earlier mod for the UK, I found that putting the correct amount of ammo in the section (IE: 2 LAWs per section) tended to make life very difficult when facing an armour charge.

So what I'm asking is there a reason for this? Or is it something done for game balance and explained away by saying the unit is getting low levels of resupply, or some such?

The amount of kit carried by an infantryman is not something you would believe till you have tried it

2 LAWs, 50 or more rounds of belted for the gimpy, 5 SLR mags (full), probably some boxed 7.62, and that was not untypical. (And then add full pack, 2x24hr ratpacks and some compo rats, entrenching tool, water, bivvy bag, helmet, noddy gear, and all the other stuff).

Even more "fun" when you were actually wearing the noddy suit!!.

Half a dozen LAW in a rifle section of 8 is not unreasonable.

"official" listings are simply reccomendations - what the guys do in reality tends to differ, but wargmers seem to bow down and worship these "TO&E" type listings as holy writ. (We always left the silly 2 inch mortar in the armoury. It saved 2 men in the rifle platoon who could be used for better things, if actually available. Just issue a few more shermuley flares and smoke grenades to do it's tasks).

Oh, yep - forgot to add a few grenades (varicose flavours) to the list above, maybe a smoke and 2 HE (or thunderflashes on exercise - good items for some trout fishing !

Cheers
Andy

yeah but thats why god invented the Drill LAW, a Pick axe handle and a sledge hammer...

(Silly crunchie's carrying all that kit, should sit at the back with a brew, PS2 and a microwave in the back of your Triffid)

But one of the UK Rifle sections (the ones mixing the comand and support sections) has 8x LAW-80, two GPMG's. So you GPMG grunt is going to be carrying a LAW-80 as well, and the Trp LT, oh and the RTO (Bet they love that Idea wih a BOWMAN strappted to their back).

(BTW: That's also avalible up until 2020, when It should be NLAW, from 2006-7)

I was psecificly speaking about the 4 LAW shots per section, when it is ment to be two, are the other two there for game play issue's?
