Gem Usage Quirks?
Has anyone noticed anything unusual about gem usage recently?
Heres my situation: Abysian mage buffs to 5F, casts Firestorm (5F, 500 fatigue, 5 gem cost), and gets only 200 fatigue! How is this possible?
From what I know about gem usage, you can only use as many gems as you have power in a magical path. So if the spell costs 5 gems and the mage is 5F, doesnt that mean that all gems will go into the spell cost? And that none will be left over for fatigue? This should mean that the spell should not be castable by a 5F mage... but I watched it happen, in two seperate battles.

Re: Gem Usage Quirks?
So, what your link says is that the gem restriction only applies to gems used for fatigue. The cost can be paid by any mage of any power (assuming they can cast the spell in the first place).
Ok. But then how do you explain the fatigue of the caster? If the above information is correct he could have used 5 gems (aside from the costs of the spell) to break down the 500 fatigue of the spell easily.

Re: Gem Usage Quirks?
I never said I could explain the fatigue system.
I just know that the cap from casting even a massive spell has always been 200.

Re: Gem Usage Quirks?
RonD, I dont think you are correct. I've talked to several experienced players and they assure me that the gem cost is taken from the max amount of gems a mage can use.
Hmm, I was hoping someone would have a solid answer but it looks like I am going to have to test it

It happens often, a mage casting a spell which should give him/her/it 300 fatigue (or 500) - and still having 200 fatigue afterwards with no hp lost. But sometimes they dont.
I thought it only worked when you have 0 fatigue before, but you said on the irc channel that he had cast phoenix power first.
Basicly... exact mechanics are unknown.

Re: Gem Usage Quirks?
A number of months ago a similar question was asked, and I performed a test. Thread
